Hey guys,

I have a customer with a Black 2013 Nissan GT-R (Black Edition) who is interested in a long lasting paint coating to provide superior protection for his new toy.

The car has a matte carbon fiber wing and rear difuser (see pic below)

I am wondering if these components can be coated and still retain their original matte finish.

I am specifically looking for input on 22ple VX1 Coatings and CQuartz Finest coatings, but any information about other's experiences would be great regardless of coating type.

If they cannot be coated, what would you recommend as the best product for protection? Something like CarPro Dlux? (that seems to add some sort of sheen from what I have seen when applied to plastic trim - not sure how it would react with the matte CF finish).

Thanks in advance!

I have used opti-coat on the unpainted rear valence of my S6, it did not add any gloss, just darkened it a touch.

that's a lexus! lol.
no pic
Pic shows up just fine on my computer when I view the thread... here is a link to the image in case you cannot see it.

^Good to know

I contacted Todd Cooperider of Esoteric Auto Detail since he is a big supporter/user of the 22ple products and he recommended I not coat the areas and instead use a product like a "Matte Surface Sealant".

I also contacted Corey at CarPro-US and he had told me that a lot of CQuartz installers have used Finest on matte finishes and it has been just fine.

I guess I can simply test in an inconspicuous area before proceeding to cover the entire wing.

Of course I'm going to agree with Mr. Cooperider regarding this subject matter!!!

Look at the "Matte-Offerings" by:
Swissvax; Nanolex; Dr. Beasley’s

**I guess**<<<WHAT!!

**Never guess!!!**...Always: "Test Spot"<<<(M.P.)

But you already knew this.

You got me... "I guess" means "I will"... but you knew that I knew that :dblthumb2:

In any case, I am interested to see what the coatings would do to the matte surface. CQF and 22ple seem very similar to me, yet one claims to be just fine to use and the other is recommending to not use on the matte surface.

When you look at the AG Cquartz (consumer version) product description, it specifically says that it can be used on matte paint.

Interesting.

I've used C.Quartz Finest on the new matte carbon wings for the Teslas and it just barely darkened it a touch. After curing there is no significant increase in gloss. I will try to dig up a pic. I think I should have one on my FB page...

Great info! Would love to see a pic (possibly before/after) if you can find one!

Thanks

I've been using Opti-Coat Pro on various matte surfaces for years. It will add a very subtle darkening, but no gloss. For max protection that is what I'd suggest, but it is permanent.

Here is the best I could find. I guess I never got a before shot but you can clearly see the gloss from the paint on the rear hatch compared to the carbon spoiler. This is after 2 coats of C.Quartz Finest on everything.

What did you end up going with?

Any pictures?

Is anyone coating the vinyl hood embellishment on the newer Camaros?

Wow, old thread :)

After discussing the "unknown" with this particular customer at the time, we opted to not coat it and instead just apply reload.

Since then I have applied Finest onto matte finishes and it has worked well. Slightly darkens the surface and adds a touch of sheen, but definitely doesn't make it glossy or anything like that.
