I need some information about the longer term use and maintenance of coatings. I have never used a coating -- using LSP's.

How do you determine when it is time to reapply the coating? I assume it's inspections for slickness, beading, etc. just like with other products?

Is the process for reapplying the coating at the end of its lif the same as with LSP's, e.g., wash, clay, polish or cleaner, wipedown, prep (such as the uber product) then coating application?

Any tricks or advice for mid cycle application? Such as do you reapply to front bumper/air dam/ hood more frequently due to its abuse, bug cleaning, etc? I sometimes will do this with my WG 3.0 but unclear if a coating would do well in this situation.

Thanks much. I know this may be a noobie type question but I had never thought about it before getting really interested in the new uber product.

I've found laboratory longevity claims of coatings bogus in most cases. Long before they give up, they will scratch, suffer from water spotting, etching , and all the crap that clearcoats are exposed to. There are tons of threads on the need to polish clearcoats once or twice a year to keep their luster. Coatings are no different. You'll more than likely polish the coating long before it fails. The trick is how do you do that without harming it or requiring reapplication. The jury is out on that question imo.

Getting ready to polish my Opti Coat 2.0 applied 2/15. Water spotted all to he{{.
I didn't apply it as I had someone do the correction for me. They were CQ guys and had no clue about Opti Coat, one guy applying and one guy following and polishing it off with a MF. I think most of it got wiped off before it flashed.
I hope I can smooth it out. Road tripping Saturday AM and I really don't have the time to polish it off and re-apply (although I still have one 20cc tube of OC 2.0 unopened)

I would keep the 2.0 for wheel use and top the existing with Optimum Gloss Coat which is very easy to apply. You will have to properly prep the paint (polish with Hyper Polish on green pad on DA at speed 5). Try a small panel and you will be surprised. You can then do panel at a time at your convenience (put the Gloss Coat Applicator in a re-sealable plastic bag and use at your convenience).

I was able to knock it down with an orange LC pad and hyper polish in one pass.
I taped off the areas needing attention and only did them.
Hood, tops of fenders and Pass. C pillar.
Did an IPA wipedown, pulled the tape, did another wipedown. There was no question where the OC 2.0 was and where is had been removed just watching the IPA on the surface.
Carefully applied a fresh batch of 2.0. Voila!!

Bad news is I can now tell the difference between where I applied it and where someone else did.
So when I get home from the road trip looks like I will be removing it all and starting over.
I see Carpro Essence in my future.
