Collinite's Line

I was reading another thread and had this thought occur to me. What is it that makes Collinite's waxes so much more durable than the other carnauba's on the market. If it were carnauba content all by itself Zymol's high carnauba content waxes should be king. Collinite has had virtually the same product (at least according to their site) on the market for years. Which brings another question to mind. Has Collinite always been VOC compliant? What have they known all this time that others have yet to understand? Is Collinite's durability an urban legend that re-propagates itself? Does Collinite really last longer than the other good waxes? I have yet to try this product so my experience with the product is zero. Any and all experiences or opinions welcomed.
 
Very good questions Gear.
I been using most of the line up for a month now. They smell unlike any other pastes I've used. Chemically. Whatever causes this is probably the answer. I bet Meghan or Jason will forward this post to Collinite and try to get an answer for us.

I only wish that the bottles came with a flip up spout. I've replaced my Collinite's caps with used caps from my old Meg's cleaner wax bottles. Obviously I never throw anything away!

I agree with Justin...excellent questions, particularly about the VOC compliance. Interestingly enough Collinite's website openly shows the Material Safety Data Sheets ....
 
Gotta be something chemically. There's a reason why any Marine store in South FL carries Collinite products, that's where I got mine (way before AG carried the line). On boats the stuff last longer then any other Marine wax, even after hard use in the ocean, and that same concept applies to their auto line. What's funny is I have 845 and 915, haven't even tried their Marine specific line lol (for our waverunners/boat).

I'm going to be doing our other vehicles with 915 as the way I look at it is it will maintain the Carnauba look for months and months etc. I don't have time to detail all our vehicles every weekend or two. I'd rather just do a quick wash and qd'er and be done (with a good polishing as a base etc, not just slap any product on).

Durability, durability...
What makes Collinite waxes so durable, and what makes Meguiar's #16 so durable? I bet it's some kind of solvent combination. Maybe that's why it is no longer available.
Let's see what Collinite has to say about this.
 
I believe they had to reformulate for VOC compliance, I found a vendor that states they have limited quantities of Collinite Insulator Wax #845 Pre-VOC formula. I am waiting till they open Monday to place an order.
 
Any other thoughts on what magic this product line has?

LOL I laughed when I read that because I do that too! lol I always switch caps or bottles around to get a combination I like best. :)
 
Wow! This is a really great question. I just started using Collonite for winter protection on my car because of all the great things I heard about its durability. I never really put much thought into why everyone says it so much more durable.

Also, I totally agree that Collonite needs a new cap with a spout on their bottles.
 
The 845 was originally manufctured to insulate electrical wires, and found to have great properties as a wax.

I have a 1969 Cal 2-30 sailboat, a great old 30 foot racer. My original owners manual calls for a wet sand of the mast and boom every year, followed by a coating of Collinite (can't remember the number right now) to then protect the rig. It actually mentions in the manual that if you used the Collinite product, it would protect from any saltwater corrosion for 12 months.

They definitely have some serious products, and I have used the 845 on cars for years. I am in CT, so get winters, road salt, sand, etc. It stands up great. It is also absurdly easy to use.

I just tried Wolfgang Sealer for the first time based on finding this site. I cleaned the car, did a once over with Ultra Poly Clay (impressive stuff as well) then Wolfgang. To be sure, I put another coat of Wolfgang on a week later. The car (Silver Mercedes with 70,000 miles) looked great. I just topped it off with a coat of 845, and I think it should be illegal it looks so good. I am getting a bit addicted now....
