Just soliciting an opinion here..........what do you guys think of Turtle Wax's Color Magic?

I used some of the old Turtle Wax Color wax on a weather beaten 96 Jeep Cherokee. I mixed some black and some blue to get the correct shade to match the Jeep, and I have to tell you, it came out better than I thought it would. I'd use it once or twice a year on the hood and where ever else it was needed.

When I sold the Jeep (2004), the paint looked pretty good after using the Color wax, and I detailed the interior so it looked better than new. The kid that bought it yelled right out to his Mom, hey this is like brand new!

I've been looking around again for it at the local auto stores, but no one seems to carry the old stuff. There was a quite a selection of colors. White, red, green, blue, black and maybe even a couple more. My wife has a 2003 Subaru that her father owned before and did not maintain the exterior or interior, so I was going to try it on the paint.
 
I use the black stuff but it doesn't seem to do anything special. That's why I asked.
 
One time, a friend of mine said it worked for him when he waxed a car with a lot of rock chips as it didn't dry white in the rock chips.

That's probably the only good use for the product that I can think of, masking rock chips by using a colored wax that matches the color of the paint on the car.

Note: I never seen the car mentioned.

Since you are in the research mode, you might try looking for "Liquid Ebony".
It was touted as a filler/polish that was supposed to help with swirls and light marring.
Never used it and I have no idea how or if it worked.
I also don't know where or if you can find it today.
That wasn't really a lot of help, was it. :)
 
I heard years ago that Liquid Ebony went out of business.

When I first started teaching classes and calling on body shops and detail shops I saw it in a lot of shops. Never used it but looked at the bottle and in listed as its main ingredient as Mineral Oil.

Again, never used it but know it was used a lot to fill in and hide rotary buffer swirls at body shops and by detailers.

If you are talking about using it on your new black Camaro, there shouldn't really be a need to.

The only reason I have ever found it fitting to use is a temporary fix. It looks better than a bad spot of clear coat or rock chips, etc. when you are wanting to go cruising.

Aside from that, it is better to correct the problems (which should be minimal on your car) then give it a good coat of sealant/wax. The color magic is just hiding stuff for a bit, your new Camaro deserves better. :)

You're right, my baby does deserve much better. That's why I'm using a 7424XP, white Lake Country pads, SwirlX, and M205 to eliminate the swirls and fine scratches that were put on the car (thanks to bad car washing advice I received before discovering this site). The only thing now is when I look really close at the area I polish, while the scratches have been removed, it looks like there are some little specks that I can't seem to wipe off. Looking real closely they look like road chips. I just wonder if by polishing the car I revealed little factory defects in the paint? That's why I was looking into Color Magic. What about Meg's ColorX? Does that do the same thing? Is it better?

Meguiar's ColorX is an AIO cleaner wax and a good one, but it doesn't do any filling.
