I know, another 'check out my menu' thread. Hoping this won't be too obnoxious since i put some thought into this for awhile now

I do mobile work on the side when my full time job allows for it. Mostly on daily driver vehicles. Of the work I did last year it was all flying by the seat of my pants as far as pricing and what services were expected. So i'm trying to eliminate that.

Trying to get a handle on whether or not i'm under or overpricing my services. Or if there is anything i'm missing. I'm FAR from a hack, but i certainly don't consider myself to be on a 'professional' level just yet. So I don't know that I can charge professional level prices.

comments / suggestions welcomed. Thanks...

On paper to a lay person with a daily driver the levels just look a step up in price with you adding something to steps that already exist in the prev level. I think to make it look more reasonable you should be adding an additional service to each level from your list of additional services. This is just my opinion. But, it looks like you are holding out on the interior to just double the charge in the next level. Maybe you should reword the services to "light cleaning/dusting" in level 1, and "deep cleaning with protectant" for level 2. It looks like someone with leather interior is getting more for their money than someone without. You have to show that both types of customers are getting their money's worth or charge more for leather over upholstery if you aren't doing anything for it. JMO
Maybe add the engine bay cleaning to level 3 so it stands out of something along the lines of making each level look significantly better than the previous. Just by looking at it on here I have a hard time seeing double the value from level 1 to 2. But if you can and have been selling your services this way and it works, go for it. Not bashing your pricing, just giving you my opinion of what a regular DD person might think when looking at it.:)

thanks for the reply

maybe it's just a matter of how things are worded. For example on level 1, I used 'wiped down' when 'light cleaning / dusting' may be a better way of putting it. And 'deep cleaning' is a better way to describe the level of interior cleaning i'm referring to for level 2 (with APC, scrubbing if needed etc)

If someone didn't have leather and they raised that issue of upholestry vs leather i could do something small for no extra charge or drop the price a couple bucks i guess.

as far as not seeing the difference between level 1 & 2, that's partially my responsibility I guess at that point to 'sell' the importance of the clay bar and protecting the exterior trim. and sell the fact that the interior gets the 'deep cleaning' as mentioned above (which yields much better results than just a quick wipe down)

the price jump to level 3 is because of the 1 step polish and the extra work on the carpet. Seriously considering a HW extractor or steam extractor combo to make this more appealing (the vapor clean gaia).

Hey Bryan, just getting to the thread now ive been away in PA for the week. so i do have a few ideas and suggestions i can share.

* we live in LI and you know how the people are here. you have to give something away in order for them to even look at your pricing let alone actually buy a service. since they pay 10- $18,000 a year in taxes they only want a bargain. this is really true for 85% of the people on the south shore of LI. So to make your prices more attractive, you can use words like "package deal" or "Monthly Special". and write it up in a way that they feel they are getting a discount.
ie.:Essential Basic Detail package
$69.99 / $79.99 / $89.99 $Monthly Special$- $59.99/69.99/79.99
Compact* Mid size * Truck/Suv
Exterior:
Hand Washed & Dried using supreme MF Towels
Wheels & Tires thoroughly Cleaned + hand dried
Road grime rinsed out of wheel wells.
Door/Trunk jambs cleaned
Tires Dressed to restore/create a black wet look
Premium Wax Applied to give a showroom shine
*Free exterior add on service of the month*- Premium protection added to rims($10 value)

Add additional coat of wax $15
Add clay bar to remove embedded contaminants from paint & glass $20

Interior
Vacuum carpets & floormats
Windows cleaned
Dash / console wiped down
*Free Air Freshener*

ok so let me explain what i did here.. changed the title of service to sound more attractive. added the word "Essential" telling these tight wads this is what you NEED at a minimum. adjusted the original prices to make the special really seem worth it. added jams because we cant leave them with dirty jambs :). added free service. buy some Megs quick wax and quickly hit up the rims. takes 5 min and its worth doing to make the package more attractive. same goes for throwing in a $1 air freshener. you can even get custom air fresheners with your company name/logo on it. Also, i personally do not like pricing coupes and sedan differently.I mean, my coupe is bigger than any 4cyl sedan anyway and it may stear sedan owners away from your biz. so maybe use the layout above? its up to you tho this is just a matter of preference. tried to make the process more appealing as you can see how i changed some wording.

prices are ok for level 2(Rename it!) just add rim protection, carpet spot stain removal and Wheel wells, trunk liner cleaned +dressed and undercarriage cleaned + dressed. make it $150 for mid size.

next package add all the above + engine detail and swirl mark removal.

Additional Services:
Headlight restoration: starting at $50
Additional coat of wax $15
Convertible top UV protectant starting at $20
Interior carpet / fabric stain protection starting at $25
Engine Bay Cleaning starting at $40
Wheel protection 10 -15$

Monthly maintenance wash & wax services available

Interior only or Exterior only packages available

all i got for now i'll come back to it soon. Hope ive been helpful

thanks for the lengthy reply. definitely some good info in there

you added some life to the choice in words which i'm not very good with. making something kinda standard seem exciting and more valuable

I hear ya that everyone is looking for a deal / bonus / freebie. and i like your idea for rim protection that you threw on there. I've never used megs UQW on the wheels before (always used a 'real' wax if i was doing that). But it's quick and easy plus the UQW is usually with me.

I know you dont like 1-2-3 level of service of thing. but i was trying to make it idiot proof. every dope understands 'small / medium / large'. So I was trying to keep it simple like that. 'essential' is pretty clear I suppose. maybe i need to brainstorm a little for replacements of level 2 & level 3

the sedan vs coupe thing could be tricky. but if someone had an issue with it i'm sure i could be easily convinced to take the 2 door price for a sedan. Although I feel like i've seen other detailers sites distinguish a price difference between sedan and coupe

thanks again for taking a look. I'll make a few changes to my word doc

edit: I see you kicked up some of the prices on the additional services. Which I assume is close to what you charge in a similar market for the same service. I'll adjust accordingly.
