Here is a three way review/comparison of glass cleaners:

As you can see the windshield was divided into three sections (I hope they're equalish, but I don't think they are - no matter.)

As said above the three are:

Invisible Glass

SONAX Glass Cleaner

For a control, one type of glass-specific microfiber towel was used. In this case it was Microfiber Madness Cloudbuster Glass Cleaning Towel.

First, the Auto Finesse: it is a quality glass cleaner. The spray on the bottle is one of the best in the industry, and it provides an even coverage, albeit fine spray. Several pumps were needed to adequately coat the section of the windshield.

The Invisible Glass is what I had used pretty much ever since I was 16. The only other glass cleaner I had used prior to IG was a sample of DP Krystal Glass Cleaner. It does a good job at quickly cleaning the grime.

The SONAX is another quality product, but what else would you expect from the name? The sprayer throws a lot of product. It is a soap-ier product, which I think Nick commented on during his review of the product. I did not think that this aspect was any bit a detriment to the overall performance of the product.

Now the results:

SONAX:

I know it is hard to see, so let me say that each cleaned the glass nicely, however there are clear (no pun intended) winners.

First Place: SONAX
Second Place: Auto Finesse
Third Place: Invisible Glass

I believe that the SONAX glass cleaner is the best, by a pretty far margin. It cleaned very well, even though my windshield was not that dirty. It wiped cleanly, cutting through grime and without streaks.

The Auto Finesse is a great product, and would probably be the best glass cleaner I had ever used if I had failed to buy the SONAX. I think it fails to cut through the tough grime, but did wipe cleanly and clearly. Strong second, and would make a strong addition to anyone's arsenal, especially since the bottles are a work of art!

The Invisible Glass is the ole stand-by! It is a good product, but there are better products out there, but you'll pay for 'em. This is the cheapest (by a wide margin) and works pretty well.

I hope you enjoyed and I look forward to all questions and comments!

Happy detailing!

Nice review!

I have so many glass cleaner, but I have not tried the Sonax and will only buy it if gallon size are offered.

Nice review! The cloudbuster is awesome. Have you tried Megs D120?

Great review! I could not agree with your results anymore. Sonax is the best I've ever used!

Thank you! Unfortunately, they do not offer it on economical sizes. Hopefully in the future... I would love for you to be able to try it!

Nice review! The cloudbuster is awesome. Have you tried Megs D120?

Cloudbuster was the first glass cleaning towel I have ever bought, and I am glad I did. Always smart to start with the best! Never tried D120, but read many good reviews of it. It is very economical, and probably works just as good as these other guys, just without the fancy labels. But, hey, sometimes I like paying for fancy labels! :)

Glad to see you agree. I don't think there is anything SONAX can make that is bad. I have their leather foam (perfect since I have perforated, ventilated/heated seats) and dashboard cleaner to try next. I think the dashboard cleaner may give 1Z Cockpit a run for it's money! I will be sure to report my findings...

Thanks for review - I am still searchin for a solid glass cleaner... I recently tried IG for the first time and unfortunately for it, I'd tried the Meg's consumer stuff previously which must be a watered down version of D120 I guess.

Man I don't get the lubz people have for IG - for me it just smeared around on top and didn't cut grime without an amazing amount of elbow grease, and then would be streaky as heck w/out an equal amount of elbow grease for final buffing. I honestly feel like I could do almost as well w/ Windex as IG, and I have sworn off that stuff years ago. The other stuff I had around (lost the bottle now unfortunately...) cleaned MUCH more effortlessly and had the opposite impression - aka "hey how much EASIER this is than before!" vs "how much hard this is, isn't this stuff supposed to be good?"

I will give IG one more try (have a nice new full bottle now...) and try something suggested in another thread which is to use paper towels (!?!? amazingly something I would have thought was verboten) as a first pass with it. Maybe the abrasion of paper towels will help to cut into grime that the IG isn't softening. I will give IG credit for the glossy shine you get at the end but damn it takes a ridiculous amount of work to get there (at least for me and in comparison to the last few auto-specific products I've used).

Back to the review - yeah a local specialty parts shop sells the whole Sonax line and tho I use their wheel cleaner I hadn't tried anything else - a guy there told me the whole line was top notch but at the time I didn't think I had any special needs... looks like I'm gonna pick up a bottle as well as some D120 and see what I like best...

Sorry, no pictures but I just used Auto Finesse Crystal and was very impressed with its ability. I had a haze on the inside of the window and a film on the outside, coupled with some polish reside form GTechniq G4 that I was struggling to get off.

Sure enough, the Auto Finesse did a fantastic job of cleaning as well as leaving a crystal (ah, see, that is its name) finish. Prior to this, I had stuck it in the back of the glass shelf and usually reached for the SONAX, as it won the test that I conducted. While the results of that test may still stand (I have NOT conducted any subsequent glass cleaning tests), I have faith that the Auto Finesse Crystal is a more than capable glass cleaning product. If you all are fans of the Auto Finesse line, and frankly, who isn't, then this may be a welcomed addition. It is pricey, but it got the job done, at least for me.

Let's put it this way... I will probably reorder the AF Crystal when I run out. Money talks, and I think it is a very capable product.

If there is anyone else who has experience with any of the products, please chime in so others may be more educated with their purchases.

If anyone has any questions or comments, please ask away. As always, happy detailing!

Thanks for the write up! Any chance you could PM me where you get your MFM Cloudbusters?

I have used the invisible glass cleaner, and I'm not satisfied with it, to me it just doesn't clean too good.so as soon as I see free shipping with no minimum purchase I will try a different glass cleaner
