Comparison:
Detailers Pride Rinseless Wash and Gloss
vs.
Optimum No Rinse (New Formula)

Introduction:
I’ve used the original Optimum No Rinse but had not tried the Rinseless wash offered by Detailers Pride or the newer version of ONR. Old Tiger (Jim) contacted me and thought it would be interesting to compare the two. Jim was also very generous in offering to supply the products. Thank you Jim! I worked with the products Sunday morning and Monday night. My thoughts are as follows.

Method of Preparation, Application, and noted Observations:

Rinseless Wash
The first way I tested these products was as a rinseless wash. The car I tried them on had not been washed in 2 weeks and is a daily driver. It had some love bug remains dried hard to it and I would have normally used a regular wash but this gave me a good opportunity to test the cleaning ability of these 2 products on the hood.

Before

2-Before.JPG

3-Before1.JPG

4-Before1.JPG

I started by taking 2 buckets and placing 2 gallons of water in each of them. Then I poured 1 oz. of DP-RWG into the first bucket and 1 oz. of ONR into the other and stirred them with my hand before placing the grit guards back inside.

MIXED SOLUTIONS

7-Solutions_after_mixing.JPG

I dipped a hand in each bucket to try to feel for a difference in lubricity. After about 20 seconds I concluded that I could not tell a difference.
Next I took a clean properly folded towel and dipped it in the ONR bucket until it was saturated. I washed one quarter of the passenger side of the hood.

Then I flipped the towel and washed another section. I had not set up any rinse buckets but during my washing process I sprayed my wash towels off with the hose as needed and then squeezed out and soaked up more wash solution. I repeated this process until I believed the passenger side was complete. As I was using a WW towel to dry I found that there were some bug remains that had not been removed from the paint. I went back to the wash bucket and had a second go at those stubborn spots and then dried the area again.

Next I retrieved a fresh towel and (using DP-RWG this time) I followed the same method as described above.

After drying the driver side I again discovered a couple bug leftovers that had not been removed, but there did seem to be slightly less than what I had experienced on the ONR passenger side.

Quick Detailer
To test the products as quick detailers I mixed the appropriate amounts into 2 separate bottles. (8 oz. of ONR and 2.5 oz. of DPRWG to 32 oz. of water each)
Using my Sky as a test vehicle I taped off a small area. The test area was warm but in the shade. I sprayed on some DP, then wiped, and finally lightly buffed off with a dry side of the towel. Then I did the same with the Optimum. The ONR side felt slightly slicker, while the DP side barely won in the streak free dept. Neither product had a real issue with streaking but I think the DP had a slight advantage.

Here is my summary of observations based on the limited time I’ve spent with these products.

Rinseless Wash Advantage:
Price: Equal in 128 oz. size (Optimum in 32 oz. size)
Lubricity: Equal
Paint slickness: Equal
Appearance: Equal (DP "ever so slightly" darkened the paint)
Cleaning Ability: Equal
Streak Free: Equal
Mar free finish: Equal

QD Advantage:
Price: DP (based on manufacturer specified dilution ratios)
Lubricity: Optimum (ONR suggests 3.2 times as much product for QD)
Paint slickness: Optimum
Appearance: Equal
Cleaning Ability: Not tested
Streak Free: Detailers Pride
Mar free finish: Equal

???:

1.- Why does DP only use 2-2.5 oz. for a QD and ONR use 8 oz.? Are the goals of these two manufacturers for a QD different?

Ahh! Apologies on some of the formatting issues. All the results in the "Advantage" area were supposed to be in line. Looked great in MS word but went bad quick when I pasted. I can't seem to make it go right. Anyways, sorry about that

I have used QEW, ONR(V1 and V2) and DP RWG(V1 and V2) and all of them pretty much work and look the same besides scent and color. This is a good review for people wondering if there were any real differences between the two products, which there really isn't much.

The QD dilutions for the two are the same. You just misread DP's description. 2oz per 32oz water equals to 8oz per gal just like ONR.

great write up...I've only tried onr but may try Dp rinseless when I use up my gallon of onr.

Corey did you really use 8oz of ONR for 32oz of QD? Should have been 8oz for 1gal ;)

Great review! I've been waiting to see something like this. I use the DP and really enjoy it as a rinseless wash and clay lube, I think I'll stick with it since they're seem pretty even. Thanks

Another great review by the undisputed Master of OUR forum reviews! Many thanks my friend! I prefer the ONR but I couldnt tell anyone exactly why.

Great review once again Corey. Thanks for doing it for us!

As always, excellent work on your writeup! :dblthumb2: I have been wanting to see this exact comparison for awhile now. So far I've been using DP RWG for washing and QD. It works very well. I just received my first bottle of ONR the other day and plan to test it out for myself.

By the way, I think DP wins easily in the smell department. Not sure where you got "mint" and "Elmer's glue" from, though!

Crap! I did misread the ONR dilution. Funny, I looked it up about 4 times on the internet since I don't have a bottle in front of me. When I used the original ONR for the past year I mixed it at the correct ratio. When I was mixing the new stuff I thought it seemed odd that I was using 8 oz. LOL

Thank you!

Actually I didn't have another big bottle for the ONR so I used that little bottle. But yes :o I did mix it at the ratio I described. I guess that may explain the differences I saw in the 2 products at the QD level... Surprisingly the differences weren't much!

Thank you snowking!

Thank you Jim! Sorry I botched my dilutions on the QD. I really checked it a few times thinking it odd but somehow blew it.

Great review once again Corey. Thanks for doing it for us!

Thanks Tad!

Thank you! Can't wait to hear your thoughts!

I've seen a few people say the same thing. I had the complete opposite reaction. I don't get it. The DP smells like a mixture of those things to me. My wife thought elmers glue was the overiding scent. To me the new ONR smells great.

Another Excellent review!!!
I have never used ONR but did use DP RWG as a clay lube recently and it worked great, mixed it as per directions and it kept the clay sliding and I could really feel when I was removing contaminants and when the paint was clean it got really slick.

I use the DP stuff all the time but I did try the ONR and was pleased with it too. I do feel the the ONR may have left a bit more gloss but it was really hard to tell. It could have just been my mind playing tricks on me wanting it to look better.

Bump because Rinseless Wash and Gloss is on BOGO! 64oz of Rinseless Wash for 16.99, what a steal.

ONR is 15.99 for 32oz and this stuff smells better and works the exact same!
