Compound before polish ?

Hello all,

Sorry for the stupid questions.
I'm thinking of coating my car with Opti gloss coat. The instructions call for using Opti polish 2 but would I need to buy a compound to use before the polishing step ?

Can I use Meguiars ultimate compound ? or should I stick with all optimum products?

Instead of a 15%IPA wipe down can I just use Carpro eraser? i'm not sure how to make a 15% IPA mix.
 
If a test spot with the polish doesnt get the imperfections out..even after you step up to the most aggressive pad..then yes you'd need a compound polish then follow up with your polish(s) of choice

Ues you can use car pro eraser or similar product

You can use Meguiar's Ultimate Compound. Normally you want to follow a compound with a less aggressive pad and product, that's where you could follow-up with your Optimum Polish.

The key to using any coating is to follow the manufacturer's directions for properly preparing the paint for the application of the coating.

If you use an Optimum polish after the Meguiar's Ultimate Compound, the Optimum polish will remove any oils or residues left by the Meguiar's compound so now all you have to do is follow Optimum's directions for surface prep after using an Optimum polish.

I'm guessing a polish will be enough as I can't even pick up swirls in the paint ( I know there should be plenty).

There is no guaranteed formula for success... depending on what shape your vehicle is in, you might need a light polish, you might need a 3 step correction... only proper testing will determine what you need to do in order to get the results you are after.
