Good morning -

I am currently compounding my Mazda Cx-7 with FG400. It is doing a great job of cleaning up the paint and removing all the blemishes. However, regardless of what technique/pad I try the FG400 leaves some light marring.

I have been using Ultimate Polish (megs) to succesfully clean up the marring. It does a decent job but leaves a bit of oil residue behind. This eventually cleans up but requires more rubbing with the MF towel then I prefer. It's also an extra step that I hope to eliminate. It would take a few days for something like SF3500 to arrive if I ordered.

My question. Would M205 be less oily then UP? I can pick up M205 locally.:buffing:

What machine and pads are you using?

M205 is relatively inexpensive; may as well give it a try. In my limited experience, M205 is less oily than Menz. It's also SMART so ya won't need to work it down like a DAT product (Menz).

Going forward may wanna look into Jescar Compound and Polish, cleaner wipeoff.

Porter Cable DA
LC Flat Pad Orange.

I tested the LC Flat White pad as follow up with FG400 didn't remove marring.
Using UP with White pad and it removes marring.

I completely agree. I'm not sure why I didn't see this combo when I was doing my research. I wish I had.

M205 should work in cleaning up the FG400 compound. I say have at it!

I would suggest Gyeon polish, it is amazingly easy to wipe off. It dusts bit more than most polishes though but i like it.

I have had nothing but stellar results with FG400 and have never had any type of marring and have had amazing finishing results without a second step. I've used it on many different manufacturers paints and not had any marring. You may want to take a look at your process, pads microfibers etc.
