I downloaded the AVG 7.5 program b/c I thought it would help my computer. It installed ok but when it went to run, it re-booted prematurely and then kept re-booting itself constantly. I had to go into safe mode and delete the program. What gives? Is this a virus doing this? What is a safe anti-virus program to use to correct this? Thanks!

Doesnt sound like it but just to be sure, do you have another anti-virus program running?

Actually I do..I have the F-Secure program that comes with my provider...should I have shut that off 1st?

I've never liked AVG...

Try this, I've had great results, it should clear you up pretty good.

Prevx

The trial period is done for me so it is still only 'detecting' but it has not gone off in a few months, I have also cross-checked with other virus software to see if its missing anything and it isnt. I may pay for it eventually but at this rate I do not need it. In trial mode it still blocks programs from running if they are not detected or have never been run on your PC before.. If that happens then run the program below:

To keep your computer malware free run this program every few weeks (or more often if you like):

Ad-Aware @ Lavasoft - The Original Anti-Spyware Company - Lavasoft (click on the Download for free to the right side)

Thanks..it's now 1:35 am..I'll try that tomorrow!

I use several programs on different computer in the house. I like to periodically scan with some of the free online scanners too. Panda and Trend Micro Housecall.

I absolutly love AVG. Its streamlined, simple, and not overly done like many others. The best part... its free. No need to worry about subscription reminders that want you to dish out $40 everyday. Likewise, its highly rated on the latest reviews.

As for the endless shutdown loop, confirm that you downloaded it from CNET or AVG directly. You may have dl'd an already infected virus .exe, which ultimately gave you the virus. Another possible reason can be that you already had a virus on your comp that was desgined to react with an anti-virus software's installation.

I'd say safemode, then uninstall EVERY anti-virus software title you have, dl AVG from a reputable source, and see where youre at then. good luck.

richy...I have used AGV for years and never had the problem you indicated. Were there any problems when you downloaded the program? i would suggest trying to dl the program again and installing.

AVG is our go-to program here at work, among others. Its sounds like the problems lies somewhere else in the system. It doesn't always communicate with other virus programs very well, but it is odd that happened. It has its flaws, but its a very good program. I put it on pretty much all customers machines unless they are happy with there current program.
What's the update?

It was not due to the download but occurred while trying to run the program. It was late so I ran the F-Secure program that came with my server (I actually forgot I had it:confused:). It said I had malware after the 2nd of 4 steps. I will let it run its program and see how the performance is at that point.
