All right my Trendmico has expired and all though I feel it did a good job I want to know what is better. I did some reaseach last night and it seems that Kaspersky 6.0 seems to be the best (currently) from the site I visited (pc world, consumer search). Does anybody run Kasperky 6.0? Looking at the stats on Kasperky's web site and they have a lot more to offer compared to Trendmico, NOD32, McAfee, and Symantec. Before anyone says stop going to porn site well NO :D lol. I visit a mustang site with very little rules and we are free to post links. Well when the link is titles "this chick is hot" you may or may not be heading to a porn site. That and I would like to learn how to download from torrent sites so I want that extra protection. Another reason I want to switch is Trendmico does not offer discounts for renewing , you pay full price every time. Other paid AV give you atleast $10 or more if you renew. Check out what Kaspersky has compared to others

Norton Anti-Virus, hands down. I have it on all my PCs.

Nortons is too bloated for me IMO plus there are free ones available. Personally, I'd go for a free one:

AVG antivirus or AVAST! antivirus(top rated) and do a monthly check at TrendSecure | HouseCall™ Free Scan#

these are what I use and have never had a problem----once again, they're free!!

Good luck!

I've read the same thing dengood1 just said. dengood1 the problem with free is there is no realtime protection. Trenmicro did catch some virus trying to get by when I was downloading from Limewire once and I was very happy about that. Free ones find them after they are in and hope it can be removed.

I too use Norton ... I buy Systemworks w/ Firewall each year off Ebay for like 25.00 shipped. Easily removes the old version, and new version is loaded and Livewire is always pulling the latest upgrades without notice. I am sure its not the best, but its top 10 offering and I luckily have (knocking on wood) never had an issue. No quarantines ... and several warnings that email contained malicious content before opening !

I hear Kaspersky Anti-Virus is suppose to be very good dunno how much it is. Hope it helps

I have Norton but it can be a hog on resources some of the better ones like Kaspersky I was looking at apparently run almost unoticeable in the background compared to others. The two I always hear about are "The Shield Deluxe" and "BitDefender", they always seem to be at the top in reviews.

false......I think both of the ones I listed have realtime protection.

avast! antivirus software - computer virus, worm and Trojan protection by ALWIL Software

homepage offers that it has advanced multilayered REALTIME protection;)

Norton will destroy your system resources, you might as well run Steam and Coutnerstrike in the back ground. When I had it, Norton was decent, but I love AVG. Never had a problem with it, its free, and runs silently without any system drain.

Look into it. Its rated highly. The best though, is definitely Kaspersky

From Grisoft:
AVG Free Edition is the well-known antivirus protection tool. AVG Free is available free of charge to home users for the life of the product. Rapid virus database updates are available for the lifetime of the product, thereby providing the high level of detection capability that millions of users around the world trust to protect their computers. AVG Free is easy to use and will not slow your system down (low system resource requirements). Highlights include automatic update functionality, the AVG Resident Shield, which provides real-time protection as files are opened and programs are run, free Virus Database Updates for the lifetime of the product, and AVG Virus Vault for safe handling of infected files.

+1 I've been using the free version of AVG antivirus for years. Works just fine for me and it checks and downloads any updates everytime I start my computer. I also use the free version of Zone Alarm for a firewall. Both work like a champ. As fa as Norton ever since they got bought out by Symantec I've read a lot of bad things about it. Its bloated, its a system hog, blah blah blah. And if you whant to remove its its a PITA so I've always stayed away from it.

low blow.............:D

Well I just downloaded Avast I'll try it out for a bit. I read the reviews on Download.com and Avast out scores AVG by a lot. Aparrently AVG only has 2 sheilds whilst Avast has 6 sheild. Also Avast has a better removal rate then AVG too boot and thats what counts. Finding a virus is important but removing them is even better. I'll try it for a bit and see how it does. Also Zone labs free firewall isn't good, Kerio scored much better

What about "The Shield Deluxe" or "BitDefender"?

Did a quick search and Bitfinder seems to be a hog as well and difficult to uninstall and slow-cnet.com (CNet reviews). The Sheild Delux is powered by Kaspersky Antivirus 6.0 according too pcsecurityshield.com.

I suggest intalling Prevx1, probably one of the best out there, once the trial runs out it still blocks unknown programs from running but it won't clean them up, use Ad-Aware monthly to keep your pc clean. Ad-aware is free, just google it.

If you want to pay, kaspersky is an excellent choice, I used it for a few months, it ran in the background and did updates + scans silently (unlike AVG) I pretty much never knew it was there until my subscription ran out, I never needed it once though, I didn't give it any viruses to eat up.

Another thing, use the Firefox browser!! IE is a thing of the past!! When I still used IE 5ish years ago, I used to get at least one deadly virus a year, requiring a total pc format. Now that I've been using firefox, I have not had one virus at all, not even a little one, just don't follow stupid links, or open weird emails, and your good to go.

Torrents: Azureus + thepiratebay.org or btjunkie.com

Prn: myfreepaysite.com or sites like weakgame.com or kaktuz.com etc. and you shouldn't get any virus as long as you don't click on random links!

Hope your pc experience can be as hassle free as mine, ps. you'll have to use Firefox in order to accomplish that.

Problem is as much as I hate IE I have to use it mainly in my business, as pretty much every banks website on my wholesale side does not work correctly on Netscape or Firefox.

I run FF and only use IE when I have to.
