Hi all,

Pretty soon I'm going to take the leather seat cover off my car to work on the foam underneath that's lost a bit of it's support. I was wondering, since coated leathers don't "take" conditioners as well as uncoated leather, would there be any benefit to conditioning the backside of the leather while I've got it out in the open? Or would that just be a waste of time?

I would personally, can't hurt anything. Plus I thing it would good some good, won't do something bad for sure.

Thought about doing that to my car with Leatherique rejuvenator oil but haven't got around to it yet.
Seems like a good idea to me...

Might wanna be careful doing that. Might damage the foam cushion under the seat cover. Might cause it to disintegrate way before its time.

But if you let the oil sit and soak In before you reinstall(a day)it should be fine. IMO

This would obviously have to be while the leather is removed from the foam & would have to be left until it is no longer greasy or oily.

If some of the leather conditioners worked as well as they claim, soaking into the leather, any excess that the leather couldn't soak up quick enough would end up in contact with the foam anyway...

Saying that I do see where you're coming from & it's always better to be safe than sorry!

Conditioning is unnecessary on modern leather. The oils that are introduced during the tanning process do not migrate and are fixed to the leather fibres and so do not need replacing. Adding extra oils to the leather can cause adverse conditions like spewing which would then cause problems on the surface of the leather and would need to be rectified.

Hope this helps
