just when i was about to order 6.5 inch pads with the porter cable, many of yall recommend 5.5 pads for light swirl removal and polishing. mike demos using 6.5 with the wf 3.0, so which size is better?

Still pretty new at detailing myself, but I think you just get more pad contact with the 5.5 pads. Other than that i dont think there is really much difference

If your using the old pc, 5.5" pads are a must because the machine lacks power. Any new generation DA will spin the 6.5" pads, but I perfer the 5.5" pads.

They shouldn't even offer the kits with 6.5" pads. They are just too big for the PC (even the XP).

Get the flat 5.5" pads. They offer more correction I believe since the force is more concentrated over a smaller area. Ironically, I believe the opposite is true if you are using a rotary.

As offered above the newer machine can handle the bigger pads better, but most still love 5.5's with a PC.

6.5 work well, but, 5.5 work better. Better correction ability and easier to work in tight spaces. Still big enough to cover large areas.

+1

I originally bought the kits with 6.5 inch pads. Used them 1-2 times and then switched to 5.5 pads. Best switch ever.

The only thing I use 6.5 inch pads for is applying waxes or sealants.

Yea, me too. I think they did that because they didn't have 5.5" pads at the time..they do have some new kits with the 5.5" pads now though.

thanks for the advice, it helps that you guys with more experience are on this forum

thinking of getting the pc xp with 5.5 inch pads. just wondering if the mg 105 is too abrasive for a new car with minor swirls?

If they are minor, go with the Wolfgang Twins. Much easier to work with than 105/205 combo.

i don't think it is that abrasive. It also depends on the amount of pressure you apply. But always use the least aggressive method first. That would mean 205 on white, then 105 on white, then 105 on orange. You should keep trying pad-product combinations, then step up on either the product or pad on each trial until you find which one works.
