CQuartz with an Airbrush?

Hello,

I recently purchased Cquartz UK Edition for both my car and wheels. The one set is rather complicated (mesh pattern) and am wondering if I can apply it with an airbrush??? Also does the coating need to be thinned down in the airbrush if so??? And just before applying the coating, should I wipe them down with a mix of water and isopropyl to remove any contaminants???

Waiting to see others. I have seen Optimum products sprayed and i believe DLux as well.

I have heard of some users spraying a coating through a some sort of paint gun whether it be an Airbrush or HVLP gun. But never has anyone followed through saying how much coating was used, what tip was utilized etc.

I would give the Airbrush a go on wheels. Just make sure you have plenty of coating on hand. Also, immediately after using the Airbrush, run a strong thinner through the gun to clean the it.

Yes you will need to wipedown the wheels before application of the coating.
 
It uses way more product if you airbrush it on. The main benefit is quickness of application and thorough coverage on intricate surfaces. Sometimes, depending on the surface and your airbrushing skill/luck you won't even have to level it like how you would with wiping the coating on with an applicator.

Unfortunately I have only ordered a bottle of it so I definitely don't want to run out. So what is the best way to apply it to a mesh style wheel? I believe the kit comes with an applicator sponge so it wouldn't be that easy to stick between the pattern.

You may have to use a Qtip for tight angles.
 
Coat the car first, and use the rest on the wheels... we airbrush wheels with various coatings and do not use an excessive amount when spraying. It is a huge time saver!!!
 
Sorry I can't give input on spraying UK but on my old dd I had wheels with really a tight pattern and applied DLux to the barrels (wheels were off) and to the face. Two weeks later I applied Hydro 2 to the tight areas inside of spokes and maintained it that way for two years and it worked out great. Hydro2 also works great on grills as well. Just giving you another option
 
Just sprayed 4 wheel faces and brake calipers... applied very thick to try and produce a "worst case scenario"... so thick in fact that I had runs on the wheels that I had to wipe away. Anyway, used ~15 mL of product... so you should be able to use less if you are applying thin and not wasting too much product.

What are you using to spray with?
 
Well if you are not a professional and the one bottle is for one vehicle then it isn't a bad scenario to air brush. The product does have an expiration date and if you apply it right the first time you won't need what remains in the bottle. I have not used an air brush but can see value; even if you spray an area and spread it out with an applicator for a uniform finish, and to get those edges where you would be constrained to use the air brush.
 
Hmm, I might give it a go with the airbrush then, I just have a Princess Auto version myself. Used it for paint a while back and it works good, just can't control the spray pattern unfortunately.

The car needs paint correction too and I have ordered a few things to help with that too. I'm currently refinishing the wheels so I can get new tires, so they'll be done before I have a chance to clean up the paint on the car.

The q-tips are an excellent idea! Didn't realize the coating also has an expiration date too, good to know.
