I don't know how many folks use craigslist to search for used items or items that AG doesn't carry, but I use it often since I'm building up my work van/business right now. Some may wonder why the things that they are looking for are always gone by the time that they see them. I would argue that one of the reasons is that some of your "competitors" in the search are using the RSS feed function in their searches. I have a family member who regularly beats the pants off of people on car deals using his iphone and RSS feeds.

Here's a simple explanation of RSS feeds from about.com

If you have an adroid based phone or iphone, there are apps that will feed to your phone. There are ways of making just about every email client feed information to you instantly and most are fairly simple to configure.

For hard to find, or specialty items the search needs to be broadened. Unfortunately, for your search competitors, this takes a good bit of time and 'hunt and peck' style typing on the keyboard. That's where SearchTempest.com comes in. I do a 100 mile on smaller things that I can make the drive for and 400 miles for things that are really worth it and where I can employ the 6 degrees of separation to have a family member go and get for me. SearchTempest can make finding something in another area really easy since they have an RSS feed option. After your search results come up, look for the orange RSS feed icon on the right side, just above the search bar. It'll have a blue link that reads, "Feeds For This Search". If you use google's feed reader, it automatically directs you on how to set it up. If you have another reader, you'll probably have to import the .OPML file that is supplied.

All of these rely on your search parameters though. I've had good luck once finding a cheap Subaru because it was listed as a Suburu by the seller, so keep that in mind. I hope this helps someone score a good deal like I did yesterday on a Honda E2000i generator with 5 hours on it.
