After washing two of my cars yesterday I thought I'd speak up for a couple of inexpensive products that are often overlooked and/or never given much notice: Meguiars Quick Detailer and Duragloss #253.
Duragloss #253:
The product is billed as a tire and rubber mat dressing. In my case, I've used it exclusively on tires. It was applied for the first time three weeks ago with a foam tire dressing applicator. A couple of shots of product onto the applicator gives you enough product to do an entire tire (18" low profile in my case). At first it goes on with semi-gloss appearance, but quickly dries to a nice satin finish.
At this point I've applied two coats, each one about a week apart. While the deep black satin finish has now faded to a clean, new-ish tire appearance, the tires still look good. They don't have that dry gray appearance of an untreated tire, nor the rusty brown discoloration tires often get. The best part is when hit with water or rain, the water beads up nicely all over the tire.
I actually prefer the satin looking finish of the tire when the product is first applied, but I've been very happy with how this product has held up and how the tires still look clean after being driven in varied weather conditions on a daily driver.
Meguiars Quick Detailer:
This isn't the Ultimate Detailer sold in the black bottle, but actually the simple QQD in the maroon bottle sold in the Meguiars Clay Bar kit. I don't know if you can even buy this product any more by itself. I happen to have a couple of bottles laying around because I never seem to use them up. I get the clay kit, but always use wash water as a lube vs the QD spray.
After washing my car yesterday evening I noticed a few dull spots resulting from not properly removing all the wax and trip protectant running onto the paint following last week's Spring Detailing. The QD spray goes on in a very fine mist and glides away effortlessly with a very light touch. Both the trip protectant and the wax residue were gone and a slippery glossy shine remained.
An hour before using this product I was touching up one of my other vehicles which had Klasse SG applies, so I used the Sonus Acrylic Spritz. The Meguairs blew it away in ease of use, effectiveness, and appearance. The only place I found the Spritz better was odor, but I couldn't care less how the stuff smells.
Both products together cost less than many of their competitors in the their respective categories, but they perform way above their cost bracket.
