Ok so I had a customer call and ask me what the most expensive wax I carry for Concourse detailing is... He didn't care about the price of the detail but what the price of the wax as a LSP I used... I told him I have a few High end waxes like DODO Supernatural, and Pinnical Soveran (sp?) he said it wasn't expensive enough for his car... and hung up... Whatever...

After that call I decided to Google "the most expensive wax" and got this: 'World's Rarest and Most Expensive' car wax
Brough and Howarth... Dang! I would be afraid to touch the stuff and the detail that got that would be charged about $50,000.00! I am aghast at the price of the stuff!!!! It couldn't be that much better than most high end waxes could it????

More then likely it was someone yanking your chain

He probably never heard of them; thinks maybe zymol and swissvax should be the only stuff to touch his car...

I hope. That guy seems kinda like a jerk and if it judges detailer by the most expensive wax they use then I don't want them as a customer.

Might have been another local detailer wanting to know what you used?!?!?! Ive had some local weird calls that I chopped up to being local "detailers"

You can just about always tell its another detailer when they start naming products

When I've gotten these calls in the past, I've always exaggerated the prices just to mess with their head. That and I figure the price they adjust theirs to will in reality be closer to mine

I didn't think of this. Know any tricks to get detailers to fess up?!?

Damn shame that $37k wax isn't going to make a car look any better than a $20 one would...

Tell them you'll use whatever product they wish, but that makes it a custom job. You'll need a CC# ahead of time, and they get to keep the jar so that it's not used on anyone else's car, cross-contaminating their finish.

And offer them some cinnamon flavored civet coffee (Google it) while they wait.

I had a guy call recently asking me how much I would charge for an RV interior...... I asked how many linear feet it was and I got an "Uh,Uh,Uh,UH 30ft." Then I asked what model RV it was then I got an "Uh,Uh,Uh,Uh - Im not sure." LOL! It was definitely another detailer - I wanted so bad to mess with the guy but I went ahead and stayed professional. Never heard back from the guy.

Yeah, I would assume if he knew the prices of those off hand, he was either competition, or someone who was capable of doing the job themselves. The most expensive I have is Souveran / Fuzion

I got it now... lol... My bad for being on the defensive...

Could have been... Or I thought that it could have been someone just wanting to see what I used and they were too embarrassed to just ask for their personal use even though I would have made a few suggestions then probably offered to have them come down and check out some waxes so they know what they are like... Or it could have been one of those pretentious idiots from Cherry Creek that think that their car is Concourse but in reality it isn't....

Somewhat true... I can see the difference between a $10.00 store bought wax, $30.00 boutique wax, and a $300.00 Concourse wax... IF APPLIED CORRECTLY!!!!

That wouldn't be a half bad Idea! can I use that? I do have a few "boutique" customers that I cant name or take pictures of their cars because I had to sign a contract (If you know what type of people I mean) They would probably go for something like that to set in their wine coolers next to the Krug Clos d’Ambonnay 1995, Dom Perignon Rose, or Louis Roederer Cristal 1990... (yes I somewhat know my Apéritifs and digestifs) I think that would be kinda cool!

Lol... I have heard of that coffee before lol... They would probably go for it as well...

Yeah I had the same type of guy call me 3 times in one week asking questions like that and not being able to answer them when I redirected the question he used a different name each time too... I think he is the same guy who opened a "mobile unit a few months a go and distroyed a person's paint then said it was like that when he got it (we have a radio show on AM radio that I listen to with Tom Martino that helps consumers cust called in to complain about him)...

Tell them what you use and add that you can get any wax, for an additional fee.

:iagree:

I was just thinking the same thing. You could tell him you use Zymol Royale, but you require a $8,000 deposit, non refundable, before you touch the car and you require two weeks notice before commencing services.

Next time tell them you have a $500 wax jar and then use Turtle Yellow Paste Wax on their car ;)
