Hey Guys, I've using the uro-fiber pad a ton lately and it's really amazing to me how much cooler they run compared to megs MF cutting pads. Because I have a dozen unused 5" megs microfiber cutting pads and a dozen unused 3" megs microfiber cutting pads, I decided to purchase a 5/8 inch hollow steel punch ($12) and punch out a center cooling chamber in half of them.

After a few months, I'll share my results (opinion) on whether or not I feel the modification made an impact (positive or negative) on pad performance or durability. Honestly, as long as they don't start prematurely delaminating on me I think it will be worth it. It took me less than 10 minutes to punch out the center cooling chamber in 12 pads and the process was actually pretty enjoyable!

I have done this too and it makes big difference.

Did you have good results? Where did you buy that punch thing?

Yeah, it's helped longevity of the pads so much that I did it to every 5" & 3" Meguiar's and LC microfiber pad I own. I also did it to all of my meguiars burgundy thin 5" pads. I was worried it would lead to premature delamination but it doesn't have any negative impact. I'm shocked that Meguiar's hasn't made this tweak themselves. Probably because meguiars pads weren't made to be used on a long-throw polisher?

I bought the 5/8" hollow punch off Amazon. It's made by general tools.

I also did this with a Greenlee stud punch from work. I had to trim a little with a razor blade on some.

What was your guys methods for making sure the hole was centered? I wanted to do this with my foam ones to see if it makes a difference.
Thanks

This method works.
