I bought a random orbital air sander that uses hook-n-loop pads. I was wondering if any of you guys have tried using any of your DA pads and products with an orbital sander?
Would there be any benefit?
Whadda guys think?

Do you know what the stroke size is? How about the OPM's?

Most electric DA's used for polishing have a 5/16 stroke. The smaller stroke machines are commonly used for finish sanding. You can use a DA with a 3/16 stroke, but it will take much longer to accomplish the same as a 5/16 sander.

It is certainly possible to use an air polisher to polish paint, but it is important to note that typically with an air DA it is much easier to stop the pad from spinning than it is with an electric polisher.

You won't be able to put as much down-force on the pad especially if what you're using is a full size 6" or 6.5" foam pad. My 6" air DA usually only sees sanding duty as a result.

That said, the videos I have seen of the 3" "mini DA" air polishers look very slick, and I'm dying to pick one up to play with.

Those are some of the concerns I wanted you guys to bring out for me. Thanks. I have not looked into the 3" air polishers as I am just now hearing about it from you (thanks a lot, now I'm gonna obsess about it until I go get one!)

I was really thinking of using the air sander with a DA compounding pad to remove the sanding marks. I was kinda wondering if the air sander fell somewhere between the rotary polisher and the electric DA as far as cut and speed. I have seen videos of people removing sanding marks with an electric DA so I was wondering if it could be done more effectively with an air sander??
