Was going to get extension bars to allow me to fit small pads to my polisher to let me get into small areas.
They seem expensive so thinking of making my own by getting a friend make the blank and then threading it myself. My problem is I am not sure what thread size to use; I see differing sizes listed can anyone tell me what to use?

I see 5/16 and 14mm mentioned what is the 5/16 thread type BSF , BSC UNC Witeworth etc?

Any help or direction to well made reasonably priced bars gratefully accepted.

Look for a significant increase
in "end-play" (wobble) at the
business-end of such a set-up.

for PC style machines (PC, Megs, Griot's 6") - the thread is 5/16 - 24

FUNX650 might have a point. About a week ago, I finally tried using an extension that I had for some time. It was meant to be put on a PC7424. I used it on a machine that has a bearing that's going bad. So it had a small amount of play. Well, the extension worked for a bit. Was doing good on a small test spot. When I went for a second pass, that thing looked like it had a 1" throw! I turned it off to inspect what happened. The extension bent almost 45* near the threaded area. Too bad. It looked like a nice piece, polished up. It was a little pricey, too. Oh well.

i'm not a fan of putting extensions on the DA, IME they can come loose and that's a disaster waiting to happen if it flies of and damages the paint. use with caution if you decide to do so...

Bad idea. Think about the orbit of a DA. A pad on an extension would shake very badly.

I bought LC 3" Flat Pads, which are particularly tall, exactly for the purpose of reaching tight areas with my 7427XP.

Thanks will not risk it the ones I have seen were probably on rotary machines.
