Purchased a black '79 T/A with a 20 yr old repaint. Flat surfaces were very rough and heavily oxidized. Polishing with Megs 105 clogged the w4000 with a black gum. Results were mediocre at best.

After seeing Mike's damp sanding article, decided to try 1500 & 3000 on the PC.

I'm not an expert and I do this for fun only. I was pretty impressed with the results and the speed. Please pardon the rest of the car. I have only done the hood....the rest still looks rough and is covered in compound.

1. Wash & IP wipedown
2. Water only spritz on surface and 1500, then 3000 with 4 section passes per area
per sanding disk, PC speed @ 5.
3. Megs 105 on w4000 @ 1500 rpm
4. Megs 205 on Megs yellow 2.0 foam pad @ 900 rpm
5. Menzerna po85 by Flex 3401 on gray foam, speed 5
6. Natty's Blue on sponge applicator

Great transformation... how long did this process take you on that section of the hood?

You're results look amazing, looks like you'll be able to salvage that paint job after all!

This is what I always call,

Taking your car's paint to it's maximum potential

What this means is you do everything you can to get the paint you already have to look as good as it can and while it might not always turn to be a 100% perfect paint job, you take what you have to work with to 100% of it's maximum potential.

Good job...

Now lets see if we can take those thumbnails to their maximum potential but uploading them to the gallery so they have an actual "Internet Address", call an URL Address and then we can "Insert" them, instead of "Attach" them and it makes it more enjoyable for everyone to view the results.

Hang on... lets see how fast I can do this...

:)
