Well, the time has come and I was anticipating it with great joy.....
The 4L60E on our 2000 GMC Yukon bit the dust! She won't shift out of 2nd gear and fear the 3-4th gear clutches are shot as well as that dang sunshell is probably out of commission too!
My Brother in Law is an ASE certified in many fields of auto mechanics and has offered his help.
Plans are to build it to a 4L65E rated tranny with upgraded clutches, sunshell and new torque converter. I've never done an auto tranny before but with my brother in law guiding the way and a master rebuild kit and possibly a shift kit, the Yukon will be as good as new in the near future.......
Wish me luck, plan on dropping the pan this Saturday (have to work this week) and see what's going on.
Then drive it to Grants Pass, OR where he lives (in 2nd gear) and tear it apart. It's a 2wd and should be a little easier than it's 4wd counterpart.
She's got 149,000 plus on the clock and hope to get at least that much more before the motor goes!
I miss her already
