Would this be ok? Has anyone tried it? I got to thinking today if it would harm the finish. It would be a super cheap wheel cleaner and I would think would prolly work wonders as long as it wouldn't harm the finish on the chrome.

You're going to have a tough time chemically hurting chrome. That being said, you should have no problems using dawn on your wheels.

The only downside I would see is the removal of any prior applied wax or protectant. After the application of Dawn, you are obligated to re-apply a wax or sealant to protect the chrome from brake dust or grime.

Yeah I knew I would need to reseal them because it would take it off. I figured it would probably clean them better than some cleaners. Just wasn't sure on the chemical strength against the chrome. Plus it would cost hardly anything compared to $5+ a bottle of wheel cleaner.

Once you clean your wheels and remove all brake dust. The next times you need to clean your wheels are much easier. So washing them with dawn each time isn't needed.

should not be an issue ... but I find Griots Chrome Wheel Cleaner to offer alot of product and value for the price. Works well too !
