I'm just curious if anybody here can identify what the issue with the paint was on this Subaru that I corrected for my friend (door and also beneath the side view mirror). The defects had a rough texture to them, and when viewed closely it looked like different amounts of paint/clear was missing depending on how "white" the defects appeared. There were also little pinholes within the defects that made it look like the paint was put down over some poor bodywork.

The defects are now only visible by certain angles under the sun, kind of a transparent "ghosting" of where they used to be white, and when viewed directly you can't seen anything.

Products used:
Megs unigrit 2000/2500/3000
Megs M105/205
Griots Paint Sealant

If it wasn't paint transfer, it sure looks like someone rubbed against the car with a pair of jeans while the surface had a lot of grit and dirt on it.

The defect had a lot of "depth" to it. Definitely was not paint transfer and seemed more severe than jeans rubbing against dirty paint.

Kinda looks like someone used a scouring pad on it to get something nasty off...

Good thought. I think you might be right. Thanks for the feedback. :props:

I had a car that cam in last week that the owner had used one on her fenders to get tar off along with bleach!!!!! It was a ss Volvo S40 the spots came out great and I told her to never use bleach or a scouring pad on the car again... Those items stay in the kitchen... Her reply was funny!: "I should probably stay there too instead of cleaning my car..." I said "No you just need a little bit of teaching and I will be more than happy to help with that..."

You should've said that's right lady. Barefoot and pregnant! JK LOL It is funny what people think is okay to clean paint with. People want to care about their cars, but sometimes when you don't know any better, you just don't know. Hopefully she will come back to you for service or to get training/info from you.
As far as the Subie goes. Are you sure there wasn't a repaint on that side of the car. Pin hole from the factory wouldn't seem normal. Especially on that part of car. Looks better now though.

It was definitely repainted on that side. That's why I mentioned the pinholes as I wasn't sure if poor bodywork could have caused the paint to look like that or not.
