Just completed one coat of sealant, but it will take a couple of days before I can get the second coat applied. The car will have some light dust sitting in the garage. Can I use a detail spray and then apply sealant? OR should I wash and dry to start with a fresh surface?

I prefer to wash and dry to make sure the surface is clean, but I'm sure others have their own way of doing it.

I've done it both ways actually. I think it really depends on how dirty the car is. If there is just a little dust on there then the QD works well. If there is splash marks on the sides (behind tires) or more than just some dust I'll wash and dry it.

I was talking to Dwayne about QDs and car washes today, as I primarily use WG DGPS. Some QDs have waxes and other enhancers that might affect sealant performance as they don't get rinsed off. It may be dependent on your sealant choice.
  • The WG spritz sealant is compatable with the WG sealant, so that would work with WGDGPS.
  • Opti-Seal can be applied over wax and other sealants, so it may not make much difference what was used as the detail spray with OS.
  • Megs Final Inspection is paint shop safe, so I might consider FI as one of the more sealant and wax-safe detail sprays. That's what I've used over the years with various waxes.
  • Waxes generally need to cure for a period of time too. I used a wax that liked 48-72 hours of cure time to fully bond before another layer was added.
  • Sealants seem to be a little different, as they seem to like clean surfaces or some type of bonding aid. I've read a couple product warnings against using anything other than a specific pre-sealant agent.
I would check with the manufacturer of your sealant for the best QD option.
