1987 Jeep Cherokee
Black Single Stage Paint - Mostly original, some portions repainted.
220,000 MILES! That's a lot of stuff to screw up your paint.

A friend of the family bought this for his son as a Christmas gift, and wanted it to look good on Christmas Morning. Well, it needs a few things, but the kid just turned 15, so they have some time to work on it. Just wanted a good first beater vehicle. Keep into consideration I was going for the big picture with this, not the small details (I know, kind of backwards for a detailer). To fully detail this thing to the extent of a normal job would have taken a few weeks. Imagine a 1987 that had never been detailed and lived out of and you can imagine. As far as the paint finishing, it came out around 80% corrected and 100% better looking!

Methods/Products

Cleaning:
Wash: 2BM, Grit Guard in each, Dawn Non-Ultra (Was tying to get the most amount of junk removed as possible - I normally do not use Dawn), Pressure Washer, Lake Country Blue Sponge. Dried with leaf blower and Ultimate Guzzler.
Wheels, Tires, Inner Fenders: Meg's APC+ 4:1, various brushes.
"TOGW" Wax Removal: Mineral Spirits, APC+ 10:1, various brushes.
Clay: Pinnacle XMT Speed Clay with ONR Lube.

Finishing:
Windows: Surf City Garage Clearly Better Glass cleaner, Cobra Window Towel, Glassmaster Pro.
Tires: SCG Beyond Black and Black Magic Titanium Tire Wet Gel. Mixed 4:1 respectively. (Experimenting with this. Wanted a slight gloss with a matte look. The mix is just about right, just need to tweak it a little. The BMT Gel is really stout stuff).
Trim: Poorboys Trim Restorer
Paint: Machine polished with PCXP & Rotary
Pads = LC CCS Pads - Yellow, Orange, White, in 6.5", orange in 5", Hydrotech Pads in 5.5" (both) and LC twisted wool pad, wax applied with 6" Red Flat Pad.
Compound and Materials: M105 (1-4 passes) M205 (1-3 passes) Straight 91% IPA wipedowns (Thanks Rsurfer for the tip).
Final finishing - Meg's #7, Meg's #26.

This thing was hammered. The interior is going to get replaced, so don't look to hard at the interior afters.
Time involved - guessing around 30 hours.

On to the show:

This dullness (oxidation) was covering the entire vehicle.

Yea, that's a reflection! HA!

The hard plastic trim was all cleaned with straight Odorless Mineral Spirits.

One top section after 1 pass with M105 - major difference.

And now on to the after shots. I missed a few of the shots that I have in the before's, but I think you can still catch the level of correction.

First the interiors (again, this wasn't a complete interior resto job - hence the lack of pictures).

Better at least - major stains in this seat.

Now the rest...

Forgive the dust - I had just moved it and didn't wipe it down. The Meg's #26 is pretty well magnetized for dust I think. Going to give it a Crystal Mist wipe down before delivery.

The scratch on Pass. rear door.

Trim cleaned up pretty nicely (flash is screwing with the color of the door handle).

Higher res pictures (if you want to upsize). The gray weather doesn't do much for beauty shots, so take them with a grain of salt. That's all we have here in GA for a few months.

Great job! I just don't understand why people insist on trashing Jeeps?!
Way to bring her back to life.

I hope the new driver takes half as much care of it as you have. Nice work.:xyxthumbs:

Nice job on that Jeep, love to see cars with that many miles still shining!

Thanks for the compliments.
I know it isn't a Lamborghini, but hey - every vehicle (just about) deserves a little love every now and then. :D
