I need opinions on what products to use to detail an enclosed trailer. including the ones im considering using. Also Is my pricing reasonable (though I know its prob a bit low)

Short story.

Friends 18" V Nose Trailer.. black

avg condition ( scratches ) some light peeling of some sort on one of the pics posted below)

Not looking for a Pro turn around on this

* Wants it Cleaned and some Protection from the sun.

I was thinking.

Foam Gun blast

2 bucket Wash

Dry

and then

XMT 360 AIO on black Pad with GG6 at speed of maybe 3

Thoughts, suggestions and opinions?

I was thinking of charging him 160 for the job.
A bit cheaper than I would normally quote but he just wants it clean and some protection from the sun on the paint
as well as he has 2 trucks and a range rover I would like to get to detail so I want to charge him a price that will have him coming back soon to start having his 3 vehicles detailed.

Thanks

John

* Also he didnt mention the fenders but take a look.. what products can be used to clean these up?

^oxidized fender I'm guessing

Thanks again guys :props:

Oy. My thoughts...

- Make sure his expectations are in-line. One pass with an AIO isn't going to offer much improvement.

- He's got a slick trailer and three vehicles....he can undoubtedly afford quality work. Lowballing only establishes you....as a lowballer.

On something like this, if you don't mind investing 30 minutes, I'd offer him a demo. Do a 2'x2' panel with a wash and AIO, followed by another with some corrective work...and perhaps a layer of sealant. Explain the pricing for both, and let him decide which best fits his budget. Good luck.

Agree with above and pick half your 2' test in that peeling area or do a smallwr 1' in the peeling area showing how its going to look just cleaned up

Appreciate the advice Vroom and Hella.

Not a low baller by any means.. Most of my details start off at 165 and go up to about 250 and that's not for correction work..

This is a good buddy of mine. Just trying to offer him a good deal on this as this is pretty much a one time thing.

From it I am going to try and earn his business on his 3 vehicles which he will receive the same pricing as my other clients.. This is more of a hook up if you will for him and gives me experience detailing a trailer.

I know the baked on enamel paint is usually very thin.

But I do appreciate the thought on offering him 2 packages.. a simpler clean or correction work and see which panel is to his liking.. He may not want a full turn around as this is simply a workhorse for him.. however I would guess that the trailers appearance is still of some importance.

Would you recommend for correction i just polish and then seal?

Seems no need to compound as it may be a bit over the top?

It was awhile ago, but I think this one I did with M205 and then sealed with Collinite 845.

That looks Great Randy.. Remember what color pad you may have used?

What did you use on the Fenders?

the paint on that trailer is VERY,VERY thin.........use caution!

The last one i did, I used megs mf cutting pad and d300 and then sealed with coli845 came out very nice. (speed 4 on my GG)

the fenders are aluminum...Mothers Aluminum Polish, will make them shine like a mirror.( I used a 4" tangerine lc hydro on speed 3 for this and looked better than new)

Jrocket I hear what you're sayiing. If you have the time charge hi what you feel will earn you his other business. Have him drop off the trailor where it will be convienent for you to work on should you decide not to go with previous advise and test spots. This way you can go the extra distance polishing it up right but do it at your convienence so it doesn't cut into your other work or customers.

Polish with a more agressive pad should do the trick but try it. It's going to depend on the paint. M205 is a great polish that finishes down really nice. Rather than a polishing pad like LC white pad try a tangereine or yellow cutting pad with M205 or equivalent. BUt do a test spot so you know where you stand. Once you get the finish uniform it should polish out easily.

For the diamond plate Flitz will kich a$$ not sure you have any but worth a try.

What materials do you usually work with?

Like dad07 said above, über thin paint. My race hauler is a 24' and is black. I gave mine a one step and Opti Coated the crap out of it. I used Menz SIP on a white pad via the Flex 3401.

I have never worked on Diamond Plate the only thing I have for it I thought that may work was . Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish.

I figured If I needed to pick something else up and since I don't have time for something to ship in I could find something to work with from autozone, pep boys or advanced auto parts for the D Plate.

as far as polishes and AIO's go

I currently have the following products to work with and that I have been using

1. XMT 360 AIO
2. CG Black Light ( can be used as AIO)
3. Megs Ultimate Compound
4. Megs Ultimate Polish
5. Megs 205

and also have Menzerna Powerlock Sealant.. Optimum spray wax, CG V7 spray Sealant and an assortment of DODO Juice Waxes.

I have all color pads except Yellow

LC Flats and LC CCS Pads to work with 5.5 with GG6 3rd gen

Episode 9 season 2 I cant get the video to load on my phone but im pretty sure its the right video mike is doing a yellow pickup and if has a dimond plate bed and he shows a pretty good little clip of what products and a how to for removing oxidation from it... I hope thats the right video... regardless on the youtube autogeek channel mikes got a video showing it!!! Hope that helps.

Highschool shop class we used a drill and a polishing wheel ( super ridged cloth like wheel and a metal polishing compound bar from home depot to polish the random metal bs we used to make that can be found local ill post some links...

From memory, I'd bet it was orange or white pads. I tried to use up some of my older, beat up pads as there are a lot of sharp edges on some of these trailers.

For the fenders, it was probably Optimum Metal Polish or 105 for the bad stuff. I usually use junk 4" pads for metal and then toss them.

Good luck,
Randy
