Hi all,

My Dad just picked up a black 2012 Passat TDI and the car had the Simoniz Glasscoat treatment done to it about 2 years ago. The glass coat is suppose to be a sealant that lasts 7 years. The car has lots of swirl marks and I was wondering if it is possible to polish the car with this sealant?

I tried washing the car with Dawn (aggressive I know) and then clay baring. After trying a few different test spots I followed with M105 with a MF Cutting pad with my new MT300 DA polisher at around 6000rpms. I was able to remove some swirls but not all. Do you think the sealant is creating problems?

Thanks

You probably need a few more passes, after that process the coating is most likely gone

I've done a lot of GlassCoat installs. It's a good product (when properly installed). There is nothing special to do when polishing a car that's been coated with this product. A few passes with a finishing polish should remove most or all of it. If you are compounding don't even worry about it, your are removing it all.

I would like to know how to actually detail a car that has the Coating on it. All of these responses seem to talk about removing the coating. How does one maintain a car with this coating for a customer?

Good ol' "Simoniz-ing":
It just won't go away...
Been around forever and a day.
