Did not expect that! I would be scared of somebody starting the boat and getting wrapped up in the prop.

That's what you call wet sanding, a lot of lube.

I wonder if that improves the performance of the propeller? -- serious question.

I imagine that that gunk causes a lot of drag when the propeller is in use.

I saw somewhere about the procedures they go through before they can get the dive permit. They pull the breakers for many things, lockout others things and put up dive in progress signs anywhere someone could try to run something.

I think I'd enjoy that line of work!

I'd imagine they make plenty of money. I researched doing commercial diving for a few years just to do something different for awhile. I looked into offshore underwater welding, you are gone for a few months but make over 60k in that time. I'm claustrophobic though so it wasn't a good fit.

haha got that right. The polisher is actually water powered I guess.

I don't know how much but they said that was the purpose, it saves a lot of fuel to have a polished prop.

Algae will put a drag on a boat/ship big time.

If it's anything like planes with props, the leading edge is what's vital, because it's what actually cuts into the air (or water in this case) and provides the thrust. So while drag on a face of it may be small, I doubt it's anywhere near as important as the leading edge being perfectly clean and sharp.

I would think that at these costs , it will serve a purpose for sure , as af90 wrote .
