Would it be okay to use something like this for cleaning the wheels?

How about some really messy gunk on the paint of the car?

Those will scratch the bejeezus out of paint and prety much any wheel finish. Chemical cleaning is the first step for "gunk" use APC, solvent or other cleaner (iron removers). If that does not do it, try clay.

any idea what i can use without going out and buying a brush?

i've got a terry cloth. How would that do?

Tuf Shine sells a sponge real similar to these.. It has not scratched my paint and great for wind shields too...

the ones pictured.. like 3m they have different grades, get a non-scratch and test at your own risk

OPC will probably do what you want

Just invest in a brush. In the long run you will be glad that you did.

I use a two sided microfiber pad (one side mf, the other side is scratchy) that I use on tires.

How about one of the bug scrubber sponges with the big pores? Or just sacrifice a MF towel to scrub the mess with.

Get a bug block/bug sponge. You use it like you would a wash sponge during the wash process. Takes off everything and will bot scratch your paint.

If you're willing to use this:

1 - First and most important, REMOVE and throw away the green scrub part because it'll cause swirls even on diamond (lol)!

2 - Use the soft part that left ONLY, for undercarriage or wheels at maximum.

Use plenty of water and soap as lubricant.

This product is not good for use when washing the paint of a vehicle (even if you are careful with the soft part).

The green part would never get 1.5m closer to a car's finish.

Sure, always preferable to have the right tools for the job.

Kind Regards.
