Do backing plates wear out?

I have a blacking plate that came in one of those large kits I purchased from AG. After a few hours of work I could tell the pad was moving around. I had to use more pressure on the PC to get them to stay put. That pressure caused a small nickel size melted spot on the backing plate (I used the washer). If I turn the speed up to 4+ on my PC and only use light pressure it with throw the pad off. The only way to get it to stay on is to use more pressure than I should (burn spot). It does this to all the pads. Is there a heavy duty backing plate out there that's better than the one I have?

I guess any bp can wear out in time, but not in a few hours. Contact AG and I'm sure they will correct the problem.

I've had the Auto Quip backing plate that's on my rotary since the early 90's and it's buffed several 1000 cars without a single problem.
