I've never used Iron X on any of my rides and would love to get a professional opinion here from those that do.

I've been using Zaino previously and will be switching over to Duragloss this coming Summer, do I need to add Iron X to my arsenal? If so, why?

Here's my upcoming Summer process on a few of my rides an client's rides:
-Dawn Wash
-Clay
-Dawn/Duragloss Wash
-Paint correction with either Meg's D151 or Meg's 101/205 or Menzerna PF/PG (Depending on condition of paint)
-Paint cleaning with Duragloss 501 to clean up the paint real nice.
-Layer on the Duragloss w/ PBA blended in.
-Sealant, etc.

Now, from what is listed above, do I need to add/have IronX into the mix at some point? Is there a benefit?

Do you NEED it?

No - not at all.

The main benefit of using Iron X (or similar products) is that it saves time in decontaminating your paint. Iron X works to quickly and safely dissolve bonded iron particles from the surface of your vehicle. This can also be done with detailing clay, however the more contaminates that there are to remove, the longer it takes to clay the car.

Iron X is also great for routine cleaning (ie used every few months when applying a new layer of protection). You may even find that claying is not needed after an Iron X treatment depending on the environment that the vehicle is regularly exposed to.

but again, it is not needed.

If I didn't use Iron X on this Civic I detailed, then I would essentially be waxing over all the iron deposits embedded into the paint (pictured below). :wow:

As a car care enthusiast, the thought of not using Iron X on every detail makes me sick to my stomach. I think Mike will have something similar to say. :dblthumb2:

Wow...I have never used iron x and feel silly now.. Guess I need to read up more on that and make another purchase. Thanks for sharing Nick

Thanks a lot for the response, helped quite a bit.
Clay will always be a part of my routine; I suppose it would all depend on the condition of the vehicle I'm doing.

Pretty convincing there Nick, really.
I think I'll go ahead and try it out.

That being said, which brand? Is one really different from the other? How much will I need per vehicle?
Will I need to dilute it or use straight out of the bottle?

I hear ya B0b, that's why I ask over here. Need to know what I'm missing out on

Is it truly safe on clear coat, I assume it strips any wax or sealant.

It will diminish and possibly completely remove any existing wax or sealant. It is worth noting, however, that Iron X should not diminish coatings. It is actually recommended as a maintenance item to CQuartz coatings.

It is safe on clear coat as it is "pH balanced". It can also be used on clear coated wheels.

Just spray on and power wash off or does it need some scrubbing.

One last question is this stuff the same as Sonax wheel cleaner.

I find it is helpful to lightly agitate with a wash mitt before rinsing.

No, they are 2 different products. Iron X is meant to be used on painted surfaces while Sonax Full Effect is a dedicated wheel cleaner that should not be used on painted body panels. The wheel cleaner has other chemicals in it to deal with brake dust and typical heavier build up found on wheels.

I just bought the 500ML bottle of IronX cherry scent and OMG does it smell like >]+{€+]%!!!!!! But I can't wait to use it!!! :)

I've been confused about iron contaminants...

Are we saying claying will not effectively remove iron contaminants?

In addition, will clay alternatives, specifically Nanoskin autoscrub, remove iron contaminants?

Clay will in fact remove the above surface bonded contaminates. It is simply quicker and easier to remove as much of these contaminates before moving on to the claying process. At least that is my main reason for adding Iron X to my process.

Got it and thanks!

Since clay alternatives are supposed to do the same job as clay.... is it safe to assume that they will remove iron contaminants?

Yup - I have used my nanoskin mitt to remove iron particles from a friends car. Piece of cake.... though it surely would have been much quicker if I had my Iron X with me and we simply sprayed the entire car down, then agitated, and rinsed.
