(and I realize this is "crazy talk" to 99% of the population)

If not, what do you do to maintain these surfaces, if anything?

And on a related note, when people apply coatings, do you apply the coating to these surfaces?

I use sealant on mine but only once a year. Makes it easier to dry more than anything

No. Just clean with a waterless wash every wash. So, they stay pretty clean.

Just a quick wipe down after washes to keep it clean and take care of potential water spots. Hit it with Chemical Guys V7 on occasion.

Some areas in the door jam is hard to reach. Using a brush to clean works, but trying to buff these areas are a challenge. Using Aqua Wax which dries clear solves this problem.

I do coat this parts as well along with coating jobs.

Kind Regards.

I use klasse high gloss sealant or either chemical guys jet seal 109 and wash them every other wash followed by chemical guys v7

I use spray wax on for door jams on every car i do. Or i use microfibers to polish off the wax on the car itself and then use those same rags to then wipe the jam, still works quite well.

Yes...
I invariably apply Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant (WGDGPS) to those areas.

Here's a couple of photos of the inner hood;
Kinda sorta of the trunk/hatch;
No jambs photos---but WGDGPS is always present.

Permanon Platinum in tough to reach areas like this:

I was disappointed that I couldn't get these areas any cleaner.

Used Optimum Power Clean followed by CG Citrus Wash & Clear with a Wheel Woolie.

I was able to determine that the light areas that look dirty area actually areas with NO base coat on them. The light color you see is primer.

What are you using to clean the OEM coating off of the rubber boots? In my photo they are labeled Door and Body. I scrubbed ad scrubbed with OPC and IPA in the Door boot with OK results, but took too long.

I agree: Sonax Net shield.

I agree: Sonax Net shield works great here.

I use spray waxes and detailers...usually Mothers Spray Wax, CG Speed Shine or just UltimaWW+ to clean.

For maintenance washing, it makes cleaning jambs easy and quick.
