Do you Foam Cannon even if car is not too dirty?

Hey guys,

Do you foam cannon presoak and power rinse your pride and joy ride EVERY wash or just when it passes a certain dirtyness threshold?

My ride's don't see much driving, and usually I just have the usual coat of dust/pollen (Maybe some spots from rain falling on the pollen/dust) but no real mud or any serious road grime.

Would it be safe enough just to go right into the 2 bucket method in cases like this, or do you guys always presoak/power rise for extra safety no matter the dirtyness level? I do have soft paint systems on my car.

I am not interested in Rinseless or Waterless washes at this point in time.

a lot of guys do.. especially those who have a business and work on high end cars..

i personally wouldnt.. overkill in my opinion

If my truck is just dusty or covered in pollen, I will just use my foam gun, rinse then hit it with my Master Blaster. I do full washes when it gets really dirty but I always use the Master Blaster to dry.
 
Theres no such thing as overkill when your client pays you good money. Its all the extra stuff that keeps them coming back to you and what sets you apart from everyone else.
 
I don't own a foam cannon, I pretreat with a dilluted APC, wheels/tires/ wheel wells, bugs on the front if any, exhaust tips and inside the fuel door area, then blast with the pressure washer, wash and rinse. If it needs extra attention in certain areas I will hit with the APC again while wet, and wash the ugly areas and rinse again. Foam cannons scare me because if you don't wash fast enough I feel like it's going to dry on the car and cause issues.

I know you said your not interested in rinsless or waterless washes, but it sounds like the perfect scenario to use either one. I'm guessing you're talking about that pristine RX7 you own. I can understand your apprehension, considering the time and effort you'd spent to getting it to where you want it - the last thing you want to do is marr the paint "tyrying out" WW. I would suggest getting a bottle of UWW+ or similar and ask a family member or friend if you can wipe their DD down with it to try it out and work on the technique. I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised by how easy, quick and nice it turns out. You could probably get good at it and clean your car in 15 min. (longer if your detailing your wheels & wells).

But to answer your original question, I would try doing just the foam with a rinse, but have the buckets on standby, in case the foam wash alone doesn't meet your standards. If it meets your standards, gets all the dust & pollen off without the use of a mitt, then even better. But like the other guys mentioned, it's probably overkill to do both, unless it's filthy.

Bingo. On my 6 figure cars I always do. Customers feel extra special and it actaully does have some benefit in terms of getting post polishing oils off without having to touch the paint.
 
i use the cannon alot for my own car when it gets coated with even light pollen,it sticks like a magnet this time of the year.
 
I like the foam when the car is just barely dirty. Foam, dwell, rinse, blow dry. Works like a charm.
 
I guess what I meant is can you skip the presoak and power blast and go right to the 2bucket method if your car is not dirty or do you always presoak and blast for safety?

You can. It should be fine. I always break out the foam cannon though cause I enjoy using it. Pressure rinsing is the most important step IMO.
 
no. if I break out every tool and step that I know I will literally be outside ALL day till the sun goes down simply washing the car. (its happened before)

whoa you just blew my mind with that statement, I now need a foam cannon :props:.
 
I almost always get out the pressure washer and foamer.

It's just so much fun.
