Just wondering, I'm sure the clay would help but is it absolutely needed.

Absolutely.

A clay bar removes above surface contaminants (over spray, rail dust, bugs, etc) while the cleaners/abrasives in a cleaner wax/AIO will remove below surface contaminants. Some AIOs that contain abrasives will also remove swirls.

If you want to get the most out of your wax, sealant, cleaner wax or AIO, the foundation for which you're working on (your paint) should be squeaky clean, and that's exactly what a clay bar does.

Thanks alot, also I find I like to give my vehicle a quick wash after I clay. So can I use water as my lubricant??

I would avoid using water as a clay lubricant. Water won't provide enough lubricant to avoid marring. You are better off using a clay lubricant.

Only if you're using a clay for which plain water is recommended as a lube (yes, there are some) - otherwise, I'd stick with a proper clay lube.
