Hi there,

Do you need paint cleaner with Meguiars ultimate compound or is that not necessary?

UC has polishing oils and should be cleaned before applying LSP. You could also use an IPA for cleaning.

sorry im kind of new to this. what is LSP & IPA?

I was thinking of using Pinnacle Paintwork Cleansing Lotion.

Thank you.

You don't need a paint cleaner before polishing, but after polishing you need to wipe the polishing oils off the paint with IPA (Isopropyl Alchohol) or something else to remove the oils like Eraser by Carpro before applying your LSP (last step product) which can be either a wax, sealant or coating.

So Pinnacle Paintwork Cleansing Lotion would not be necessary?

Will store bought Isopropyl Alchohol 70% work?

You can use PPCL as a paint cleaner after polishing.
Will store bought Isopropyl Alchohol 70% work?

Yes, cut it with 80% distilled water and 20% or less alcohol.

-Are not compounds/polishes paint-cleaners?

-Isn't Meguiar's UC actually cleaning the paint when being used as directed?

-What if you would need to perform additional polishing steps (post-UC) for: Further paint refinement...
Wouldn't you still, in effect, be cleaning the paint?

Also:
It's the LSP's-manufacturers' specific instructions that will be the determinate if I'm going to use
a "panel-wipe" such as: IPA, Eraser, etc...before their application over freshly polished paint.

Now...Take a deep breath---Relax.
Don't make it too difficult...This is supposed to be FUN.

Well the "cleaners" in a wax are compounds/polish.
Soooooo if your compounding/polishing, your cleaning the paint.

And you don't need to "remove" polishing oils after polishing.
It all works together.

Some things I read here are just not true. Where do you people come up with this stuff?
Enthusiast want to do as many steps as possible when detailing.
But it's mostly a waste of time and money.

So, I can polish with Ultimate Compound and apply Opti Coat because it all works together?

I was planning on using Wolfgang deep gloss 3.0 to finish up after Meguiars ultimate polish. Would I need iPA before application?

In all my years of detailing I never used a cleaner after polishing ,I see no point and a waste of time IMO.

Guys, the OP is trying to get a quick and straight answer. He is new, as am I still am, so let’s be helpful and not argumentative. I PMed him a correct answer and the advice to get Mikes book.

Perfect for DP pre-prep, this is my go to from now on for sealants and coatings.

If wax, I use Prima Amigo or something along this product.

Also firm believer in synergy, Ultimate Paste Wax right on top of M205, no wipe down.

I'm not arguing , I gave him an answer that IMO is correct.
That's my advice to him.

I'm new here so I could be wrong but don't polishing oils add to the appearance to the car? When I use meg #7 show car glaze, a pure polish it has a darkening effect on my paint and it helps to hide imperfections. I top it with gold class wax and my car looks nice and the imperfections are much less noticeable than when I just wax. Why remove something that helps appearance?

So you're saying you're still "new"...but yet you PM'd the OP a correct answer?

I like correct answers to detailing issues myself...Care to share? Thanks.

Some will agree about hiding imperfections (swirls)..I prefer to remove them before LSP. Using IPA, Eraser, mineral sprits, Prep All among other solvents will remove the polishing oils and expose what is left in your clear coat.
