If you buy car soap and other detailing chemicals in gallon sizes and use a hand pump dispenser like this one:

You’re probably familiar with how much of leaky nuance the pump can be while not in use. However, you may not be aware that a 3/8 screw protector acts as the perfect cap to stop unwanted drip, leaks, and otherwise unwelcome spillage:

Available at most hardware stores for less than $1, they often come in a 2-pack, as displayed in the following photo taken at my local Home Depot:

Nice and snug:

I can’t take any credit for discovering this quick fix, that honor goes to another… I don’t recall who - maybe it was you? Regardless, an official post on this simple hack is long overdue. No more leaky Honeydew :dblthumb2:

When I saw the title of this thread I figured you were talking about another kind of apparatus

That's a good idea...I actually think I bought some of those little caps at Home Depot the last time someone brought this up...I wonder what I did with them?

I've been doing this for a while, but use vacuum caps.

Ok, while we're on the topic, I noticed that some pint and quart wash bottles don't have spout tops, and thought it might be easier to dispense them that way, so I bought a selection of spout tops which I will try when they defrost...

Nice! Those vacuum caps are perfect on the wider tipped hand pumps. After double checking prices, the screw protectors are cheaper @ $.36 per cap (2 pack for $.72) vs $.62 per vacuum cap (4 pack for $2.49). But the screw protectors only work on the round style tip.

:dblthumb2: Never would have thought of this. Thanks! Next time i am near there i will pick some up. I just was using a plastic drip pan. :dunno: under the gallon container.
