Dodo Juice - 1936 Chevy Coupe - Extreme Makeover

Before and After Videos Showing Swirls Removed

Using Speedy Prep Towel to remove Overspray Paint

Met up with my good friend pj from Dodo Juice Carnauba Waxes as SEMA and he told me he was going to be in South Florida the week after SEMA and he asked me if I had any car projects we could tackle together while he was in town.

Just by coincidence my buddy Mike Gelter just bought a 1936 Chevy Coupe hotrod that was in dire need of some swirl removal and paint polishing. So Mike dropped the car off Wednesday morning and about noon pj and I went to work.

Surprise Guest!
While bringing the hotrod into the studio I saw my long-time friend Kristhian Salazar walking into the front door here at Autogeek. Kristhian is from Bogotá, Colombia and was also at SEMA and before returning to Bogotá stopped by the Geek to pick up some supplies.

I invited Kristian to join pj and I for some fun working on a "real" piece of Detroit Iron and he gladly accepted.

Here's a few pictures from this project, I'll post some more later today, needless to say, the paint on this cool coupe was trashed before we started and then with a little help from some Dodo Juice polish we restored a true show car finish.

Next we moved the Coupe into the studio to wipe her down with a waterless wash. I make it a practice to never wash classic cars or streetrods as I don't want to introduce water into places you cannot reach to dry where it could accelerate a rust problem.

Note how dull and lifeless the paint is in the before pictures...

Then fold your microfiber towel to a clean, dry side to wipe the paint to a dry shine...

Here you can see the dirt that was removed. It's important to either wash or wipe clean the exterior of a car before doing any type of decontamination or machine or even hand polishing.

Next up we hand and machine apply Dodo Juice Blue Velvet Pro and Purple Haze...

:)

If you look at the hood you can see the pattern left by both Kristhian and I when we machine applied the wax and you can see the finger pattern left by pj on the front fenders or wings as he likes to call them...

I really like the Do Do Juice waxes.

Great work on that!

It's a beaut!

Edit: how long does that bottle last?

Thanks Aaron... this is a very curvy car and the 5" Hybrid pads on the Flex 3401's worked really well.

Edit: how long does that bottle last?

The three of us had two bottles of Dodo Juice Supernatural Micro Prime between us and we used about half of each bottle.

I have a few more "after" shots to show the results plus some videos showing before and after and will post them as soon as I can get to them...

:)

Here's the products, pads and tools we used...

Supernatural Micro Prime to remove the swirls and then Blue Velvet Pro to protect the paint...

Very nice job. Guys here at work really liked it.

They say WWAD, What Would Aaron Do when cleaning. It's a nice compliment I think.....

Too cool

Great job guys!!! That polish worked great!

BTW.. Love the Dodo! :props: Dom and PJ may be the only 2 guys that own more Dodo products than me.....great stuff!

Thanks for sharing this project with your work buddies Aaron, for what it's worth, the small block has a pretty bumpy cam too...

Great job guys!!! That polish worked great!

It actually did work really well. It's very thin and has a long buffing cycle and its a breeze to wipe off. First time I used it and I was impressed, at least on this custom paint job.

The 5" Hybrid Polishing pads also worked really well, the more I use these pads the more I'm liking them especially on the Flex 3401 and rotary buffers.

BTW.. Love the Dodo! :props:

Cool products that put fun back into the hobby...

Always makes for an interisting conversation when you tell someone that you waxed their vehicle with Purple Haze, rainforest rub....ect.

They do indeed make detailing fun! I enjoy detailing to begin with but Dodo products do add that cherry on top of the already fun factor and they do indeed make great products!

:props:

***Update***

Just added the before and after videos from this project to the first post of this thread and below.

This shows the true condition of the paint before we buffed it out and then I took "after" videos both inside the studio and outside in the sun.

Note I refer to this Chevy as a Ford in the third clip! Yeah yeah yeah, I know what kind of car it is I was working on but when I was shooting the video I had a brain lapse I was focused on the products we used...

Enjoy...

"Chevy as a Ford".....We all know where your heart lye's.

Brain drain... was focused are stating the names of the products...

I think somewhere on the forum I mentioned this is a rare car and it is, there are more Fords like this on the road than Chevy's so I'm just not use to seeing, working on or talking about a 1936 Chevy.

I do have a 1936 Ford Roadster coming up in December...

Always something cool getting buffed out on this forum... :buffing:

Sign up: 1936 Ford Roadster Show Car Makeover

Thursday, December 13th

Here's an upcoming project car where I'll go over the do's and don'ts of detailing and buffing out classic cars. This classic 1936 Ford Roadster has an old single stage paint that needs some help as well as the interior.
