Does Klasse SG actually improve shine?

My show season prep for my garage queen '60 Eldorado (repainted with 2 stage paint) has for many years been the Klasse twins, topped with a coat or two of Souvereign or Collinite 915 (we're talking local show and parades, not judged concours events). But I have a love/hate relationship with the SG. It certainly prolongs the shine, but for a car that is garaged and driven a couple of timers a week and is going to have the wax refreshed every few weeks, is it really adding anything to the shine? It is always a battle to get it all off, and it doesn't seem like it's adding anything to the just-polished gloss after rubbing off the AIO; it sometimes seems like it slightly diminishes the shine. In this case is the SG necessary? Or is there a better alternative?

Just some background, how long have you been using KSG? Also and most importantly, how are you applying it?

I love this thread already

Also, for Eldo and myself inparticular, can we PLEASE see some pics

I tried Klasse SG years ago. Maybe 4 or 5 times. It was a real pain to remove. I ended up throwing the rest of the bottle away.
If you want to try an excellent sealer try Jescar Ultralock or if you don't want the whole Sio2 thing then Jescar Powerlock. They both buff off incredibly easy. You'll wonder what took you so long to try it. Very good products.

I’ve been using AIO and often with it KSF for a long time, like 25 years on my daily drivers and often on my garage queens, although it didn’t really become my car show go- to until I cam across a discussion of “the perfect shine” on some detailing discussion around 10-111 years ago. It called for KAiO and KSG topped with a couple of coats of a good carnauba. They suggested P21S, which as too “sparkly” for my taste. I like Souveran better. When applying KSG I use an applicator pad with a corduroy-like covering that I actually got from the Klasse importer, who at least in past years manned a booth at the SF International Auto Show.

As for pictures:, looks like I’ll need to resize in order to post, but I’ll get a couple tomorrow.

The place I got KSG from originally, before AG, told me a trick to applying KSG and it's this. First pour some of it in a small spray bottle, I use an 8 oz Griot's Garage bottle. Then get a bowl of warm water, take a cotton applicator and dunk it in there and wring it out so the applicator is damp but not dripping. Next about 2 sprays of KSG into the applicator and apply to the section your working on, working it in till you can't see it anymore. Finally, without waiting, wipe off with your good mf towel, preferably something like a 350 GSM mf towel, possibly needing a couple to finish your car. Now after every other section re-dunk that applicator into the bowl and wring out, keeping it fresh

I also make an awesome quick detailer/maintainer using KSG & rinseless wash if your interested, a "home brew" if you will, let know if your interested in that

For a garage queen in the scenario you describe, I don't see the SG really doing you any good. If the paint is polished out and defect free, the wax should be all you need and will make the paint look amazing. I'd save your time and money and just apply the wax.

I can't disagree with this but 2 coats of KSG give your paint a "candy" look, the tips given to me by that distributor 20 years ago has stayed with me

The first car I applied KSG to was my then new 2005 Chrysler Crossfire Limited (6 spd) in Aero Blue and I can tell you it did "candy" the paint

Using a caranuba over it can and will change the looks, it's what your looking for and/or feeling at the time

How long ago was that? I remember that guy (well, seeing a picture of him on the internet), but I'm pretty sure the import rights passed to PBMG, and then to RME after the sale, so that was 10 years ago at least.

I don't think it's been 10 years since I've seen that booth at the show, but it may have been 7 or 8. But I recently picked up some AIO, and it still lists the exclusive importer as being at 601 Van Ness Ave. in SF, which is an apartment building near where I used to work.

I'll have to try that application tip. Also, I've never tried two coats of KSG. Getting the first one off has always tired me out. I love my big boats, but sometimes after work like that I wish I was more attracted to Fiat 500's or Bugeye Sprites. And after this one is done, I will need to get to work on my all-original black lacquer '61 Fleetwood, which needs to be ready for a concours in Junes, which gets the Megs #7 regimen, gently applied by hand, a rather time-consuming endeavor.

Here are a couple of pics of the Eldo. I don't think I've posted pics here before, and had a tough time getting them reformatted, so I hope they are decent size/resolution.

I remember looking up that apartment building. Maybe I jumped to a conclusion, I remember there was a Klasse website for a while, and IIRC I looked up the domain owner, and it was PBMG. Perhaps they just did that to better market the product, not because they had taken over the importation. That website doesn't exist anymore, and Autogeek doesn't sell Klasse anymore, but AutoForge does, so maybe again that's me jumping to a conclusion.

Thanks! It was an Eldo-only color- "Champagne", which seems appropriate for a car representing a 40% upcharge over the Coupe DeVille when new. The wheel covers were unique to the Eldo and Fleetwood. Lots of fun to polish. As a Klasse-y guy you'll appreciate that I use AOI for that, too. I actually use AOI for all the trim except for the bumpers. Easy on, easy off and not abrasive. And unlike the regular "chrome polishes" it won't hurt the paint if I get a little sloppy.
