Other than engine cleaning, does Simple Green have any purpose in detailing the outside of a car?

Could it be used to help remove a dealers sticker (decal, not plastic)?

Personally I don't like to use it but my uncle liked to use it if he ran out of wheel and tire cleaner. Also liked it on leather seats. I really don't recommend it, the smell alone gave me a headache.

Bought Simple Green to wash wheels and such but after hearing that it may have ill effects on aluminum, it goes nowhere near my car. Actually.. used a few times to wash the garage floor but that's about as close to my car as it gets.

Based on my oberservations of the stuff, I don't know if I'd want to use it under the hood either unless it was diluted pretty good. I don't want anything drying out my hoses and belt prematurely.

The best way to get those dealer decals off is to warm them up with a hair drier or heat gun and then slowly peal them off by hand. To get them started you could probably use a plastic razor blade, or I just used my finger nail to gently get a corner coming off. Once the decal is gone, I've always used a little goo gone on the tip of rag to get the rest of the adhesive off.

Oh geez my dad once told me that simple green is great for wheels and when the car is really dirty he adds a little bit to a wash solution (which is Blue Coral).. i gave up on trying to teach family members on the proper ways of washing a car..

Actually..i tried several times to teach my dad the ONR-2 bucket method wash..all he did was whip out the lawn chair, open a beer and sit there talk about the economy..

Simple Green is good for cleaning concrete floors or adding to the washer when your washing greasy nasty towels after fixing your car. It's also *decent* for wiping down tools that are dirty. I don't use it for anything detailing related.

Thank you for the input. Now that y'all mention it, I hadn't thought about how it really takes all the oil out of some parts that don't need to be dried out so completely as Simple Green would do.
I would never use it straight and would definitely not use it on leather as it would dry the crap out of it unless diluted waaaay down...... but, I have exclusive leather cleaner for my car which I'll stick with.
Thanks again, and Merry Christmas to all ! ! !

p.s. I've used a heat gun and goo-gone to no avail. I am only able to pick bits and pieces off and this took probably 45 minutes and the most it got rid of was ~15%..... I think I need a plastic razor blade and see if that will work.

Before answering...
Exactly which of the Simple Green products are you talking about?

Thanks.

Bob

I took off some badges on my car with a blow dryer, fishing line and goo gone.
All I can say is that it takes patience and only advice I can give is to allow goo gone to really soak in. Wet a towel with goo gone and hold that towel on it for a few.

Works on scuffed plastic trim, I used it on tires and wheel wells. I bought it years ago at my parents house I vacation to and detail their car while I'm there.

The *one* time I used it on the interior was to get rid of a nasy glob of something that had dried on the blinker stalk in my wife's car. It did get the mess off, but it took quite a bit of the white paint indicating the functions on that stalk as well.

I haven't used it in quite a while but if some was given to me I'd dilute it to a 5:1 ratio and clean my tires and wheelwells with it. Since coming to AG its Alien Kleen and that's it.

I use to use Simple Green all the time and never had issues with it.
Now I don't use it only because there's better APC's out there.

It's my go to pad cleaner - works great. Spray onto pads @ 100% and than soak for 30 minutes in a 1:5 solution. Rinse and leave on a grit guard to dry.

Won't use it on paint, but so far it is the best product I have found for removing bugs from a bug shield or a chrome bumper. Also works great for cleaning suspension parts such as upper and lower A frames.

Simple Green is some strong stuff. Maybe too strong at times.
