Al, Thanks for the headsup. I've been out to that site and thankfully my pup is in the clear. Hope the case is the same for other Geekpups out there.

Definitely thanks for the heads up. I need to check it out when I get home.

Glad to help out...My dogs get a raw diet of chicken and lamb and veggies plus dry food from Timberwolf and Wellness and Chicken Soup Brand...these are Human grade foods...I am not a big fan of grocery store type dog foods...sorta like Turtle wax to Sov..you get what you pay for...

Likewise on the grocery store dog foods. If it's not fit for humans, I'm not going to feed it to my dogs. I feed them a combo of Wellness dry and California Natural canned.

I feed my dog Purina One and thankfully I didn't see it on the list...

My neighbor has already lost her dog and the dog was eating one of the listed foods. :(

Thanks for the heads up! Luckly my doberman doesnt eat any of those brands.

Thanks Al for the link. I have four dogs, I don't want anything to happen to them. They are on Iams dry food. Thanks again!

Thanks Al. I'm saving this and e-mailing my daughter to let me cross check her dogfood to your list. Our dogs here are in the clear.

Both great foods Wystang..the EVO is grain free...foods with corn gluten and wheat used as fillers are not good ..they can spoil in time....

here is a product found in some dog foods also used as a weed killer

Corn Gluten Meal
Corn gluten meal is a safe, organic product that kills germinating weeds and adds nitrogen to soil. While it will not hurt established weeds or grass, it is a very effective pre-emergent herbicide for crabgrass. Continued research on this relatively new product shows that corn gluten meal also inhibits the seedlings of barnyard grass, foxtails, dandelion, lambsquarter, pigweed, purslane, and smartweed. Expect 50-60% control over weed seedlings the first year you use corn gluten meal; continued use in subsequent years insures you are reducing future generations of seed-producing weeds.

See were your pet food rates and why they rated it that way. Innova EVO scored a 6 star which is top choice and Chicken soup large puppy breed came in at 5 stars. Dogs eat less with high grade food so although the bag cost more to start out with they normally last longer. And a big plus is they poop less since there bodies can use more of the ingrediants.

Wystang is right on target here...the better the food the less needed..they get more nutrients from a better grade food with no fillers...

ever notice when you dog poops it looks like a dinosaur crapped..well with better grade foods they go much smaller as their are no fillers that they can not digest and acts like binder to make crap big and solid...

good food cost more..but evens out in the end as you do not use as much good food as you do cheap food....good food is about 100% nutrients..cheap food is 50% nutrients and 50% fillers...

A Healthy dog saves on vet bills also...

Al,

Thanks for posting. I was also glad to see you have your dogs on a raw diet. My wife & I are going to get a rescue lab soon and that's one of the topics I've been reading about. It all makes sense to me so if we can, I'd like to do the same thing.

Thanks again AL and thanks Wytstang. Just found out from your post that the "Science Diet" that we were buying from our vet is a two star food. We thought that we would be getting the best from our vet. That will change right away.

Some not all vets get "throw backs" for pushing products. Shelby seems to do really well on Chicken Soup for the pet lovers soul (large puppy breed 5 stars). A 40lb bag runs just under $30 so that should last you 3 weeks to a month depending on dog/breed and recomendation of the manufatures. I've done weeks of reading on good dog food and it's amazing how 60+lb pitbulls only eat 2 cup some 3 cups per day not each meal. And they are ripped it really pays to pay. Our vet was very happy with het coat and over all health.
