Woooooohoooooo! I just put 3lbs of jerky in my dehydrator!

I love making and eating beef jerky!

This batch is of my own custom design. My all time favorite flavor, sweet and spicy.

If you attended Detailfest this year you probably had some of my homemade jerky. I passed around about 6lbs.

I like to use London Broil for mine. It is very tender and lean. Turns out spectacular!

Do you like or make your own jerky?

I make my own jerky . I make my own brine and use whatever boneless roast I can get on sale and into the dehydrator for 6 hrs. I like mine tough . also I make some out of 93/7 hamburger with a jerky press tube with a store bought spice packet. I usually net 1 pound out of 3 pounds of raw meat .

I am seriously thinking about buying either a bigger, better dehydrator or just adding some trays to what I have.

I use a Nesco Pro, but I can only do around 3.5lbs of meat at a time.

I have made a few batches of Jerky with a friend that has a smoker ... OMG it is fantastic. That reminds me I need to call him and setup another time to make more Jerky.

Venison jerky for me. I like sliced dehydrated, and/or smoked jerky. Don't like any of it out of a shooter. Even with what I mentioned above I prefer old style pemican over today's packaged jerky. Home-made pemican, unlike jerky, is quite a bit thicker (1/4'- 1/2" thick when it's dried) and tougher than shoe leather...made to chew just like tobacco. You've stick it in your cheek to soften it up, and about 2 hours later it's ready to chew up and eat. Just 2-3 pieces lasts all day in a deer stand.

Of course I ain't about to turn down good home-made jerky either.

Garry,

Is your dehydrator one of the round style and stackable? Reason I ask is that I have a good friend who bought a bigger, and made much better, unit from Cabelas. He loves it and says he can make so much more at one time now. Says it's much easier to clean up as well with a drip tray in the bottom. He paid $500-$700 for it, but I also think it's stainless steel as well. Of course he's got a big smoker to that he honey smokes his fresh salmon with...that's stuff's the shizzle.

I got a nesco kinda square one . got 6 tray can go more . I think I can get about 6-7 pounds easily . I made up 9 pounds at one time and had to do 2nd batch with 2 trays so idk. sounds like a pound a tray?

Yes, and he just so happened to pass in your hometown. Maybe this is a sign from above Garry

Ohhhhhh, Yeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Garry, I have a smoker with a 8.5 pork shoulder smoking right now.(Pulled Pork) Will be done at about 10:00 Am, so if you would like to fill the smoker with your jerky come on over. It has four large rakes and should hold at least 10 + lbs of your prime jerky,,, but it will cost you a few pieces for the use of the smoker.....I can all so keep an eye on it so when it is done, teaste test it for you just to make sure it is up to par......
