I'm not sure what it is, some sort of road tar or oil. This is a buddies wife car that we just detailed this weekend. He texted me those pictures yesterday. He's bring the car back out this weekend.

Anyone got any suggestions on what to use to get this off (OTC product preferably)? From what he tells me it all the way down both sides.

Tarminator, clay, and lots of time and possibly elbow grease.

It looks like asphalt sealant or road oil from a gravel road.
I'd try prep sol if it doesn't clean with a good APC.

What that needs is a different detailer. I'd rather clean up the other guy's swirls than to mess with that mess, yikes!! Like was said above, try some Tarminator and have a pressure washer available. That's gross!!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm hoping it will come off somewhat easy (though I'm guess I'm gonna be sore after this one) since it was just polished\sealed\waxed.

I hear ya! I've got a pressure washer, I'll make Juan (naujcdl at CEG) do most of the work, his car. LOL

Sadly, I have NEVER needed anything to remove tar etc so I hardly have anything in that category.

buy undercoat sealant at any parts store for the wheel wells. looks perfect and will save you hours of time. tarminator or 3 m adhesive remover for the paint though.

I'm pretty sure whatever product you use will strip the LSP so be sure to reapply.

That stuff can be tricky sometimes. If nothing else is working, try dish soap. Its worked for me in the past.

Only a woman would drive through something like that

Get an otc tar remover, a cotton rag, and mop it onto the surface. Keep repeating this untill its gone, then apply protectant

estimated time: 30-45 minutes (minus fenderwells)

The Yaris arrived at 10:30 this morning looking like...

That was what both sides looked like, however, the drivers side was worse.

Now, we couldn't find any of the products listed in previous posts, my buddy had picked up some Turtle Wax bug and tar remover and I had some Wizards stuff and a bottle of Goo Gone gel spray.

We went to work, the above products worked ok, but honestly, what actually dissolved the tar the quickest and made removal a piece of cake, good ole WD-40, yup, that's right. We used WD-40 on the entire car to remove the car.

I can not believe how well it worked, sprayed it on and within 30 seconds the tar was melting.

We ended up washing the car like 3 times at the end of the day, but hey, whatever!

Good work!

WD40 works on tree sap too, at least it did on some pine sap on the neighbor's car.
