What does everyone use for relubing door mechanisms once clean?

I've got Corrosion X, Liquid Wrench, lithium grease, WD40, motor oil etc, but want something that does the job but doesn't look like it's there (like the grease) and doesn't attract more gunk.

I was on another forum and saw a post about handling noises from the center vents and they used 3M Silicone spray (wet) with good results (stopped the expansion pops from rubbing plastic). Another guy used dry graphite spray for lube. Would any of these work for door mechanisms?

thx

I think for door mechanisms you want to use a grease. When I had a black car I used to use Mr. Moly Grease which IMO is actually the best lubricant. Now that I have a white car I use white lithium grease. Regardless of which I use, I try to work it into the hinge then wipe away the excess. I may even let it sit for a day or two before wiping it away.

Wurth HHS 2000. I had a few mechanics that work on Euro cars recommend it to me and I haven't heard that door hinge in three years now. It comes out a very thin consistency aerosol to penetrate fine gaps and then the thinner evaporates instantly leaving behind a thicker, somewhat tacky grease that stays put. It's a high heat clear film that works great on any hinge, gear, worm roller, sunroof guides, etc. I use it on lots of stuff, like the garage door opener.

Here's a review from Amazon:

A little shot goes a very long way. The spray is extremely thin at first so the grease easily gets into and lubes very tight spaces. I use this on locks, hinges, latches etc... in the car/truck and house.

It's completely clear, it won't wash off in the rain snow etc, it doesn't turn to glue at 20 below 0 F, and doesn't attract crud like spray lithium grease. The locks on my car didn't freeze up even during this last winter's nasty rain to ice storms. my 40 year old storm door hinges swing like they are brand new.

Great product. Installed new bushings for my sway bars and even with the supplied lubricant there were unbelivably loud squeaks in my front end. One application of this product and the squeaks are gone.

My personal preference is Wynn's Viscotene. Been using for years on door hinges and door latches. Window mechnisms, hood and trunk latches, etc. Stuff works great and is almost clear.
