I put 2 coats on my car a few months back and felt the shine washed out fairly quickly so I decided to give it another go.
I went at the tires with a scrub brush and Optimum car wash, surprisingly the foam never turned brown which tells me the coating really helped the tires stay clean.
I blew them dry with a leaf blower, toweled them down then let them sit for 2 hours.
Did 3 applications 15 minutes apart and the were glowing.
The car then set under cover and a car cover for 2 weeks.
This week I needed to drive it to Miami and back during an all day rain event.
I noticed when I stopped in Miami they were brown, looked like I had been driving int he mud.
Got it home, washed it up, scrubbed the tires and when they dried....brown again, they look like crap.

I let them set 48 hours and went at them with ONR and a MF.. as soon as they dry, brown...

How do I get it off and start over??

ONR will not get the browning out. Try a APC like Optimum Power Clean or Amazing Roll Off.

That's the promblem with these rubber coatings once you use it and fails it's hard to get it off and start again.Ive been doing this along time pretty much touched every product out there.I went to Walmart browsing thru auto section they sell a dressing in aerosol that will blow u away.I washed my transit real quick last night.Did 2 details buy 6:00 it's was pouring and if any one from south Florida knows strong storms they can relate.Got home packed truck for tomorrow and glanced at tires ,the stuff didn't even come off.Ive been using this stuff since June bought 20 cans like no other product out there .From a 1 to 10 I give it a twelve they can't stock enough of it.

I've been using Tuff Shine on the same set of tires for almost 2.5 years. I've never had this problem and never had to remove it. The product simply fades naturally - which is part of the awesomeness of this product.

Usually when I'm going to top off the TS I'll give the tires a once over with their tire brush and whatever APC I grab. Some dirt comes off, but it's pretty minimal. I can't say about the DP stuff, but TS never needs to be removed bare to "start over".

My guess is the DP stuff is chemically similar to TS. In the past I've seen mineral spirits recommended to remove these coatings. Personally, I would use Tuff Shine or DP Tire cleaner first.

The dedicated DP tire cleaner must be used with it. Also DP is pretty durable. It will turn brown on improperly prepped surface.

Here's a how to on removing it from a tire. A lot of credit goes to Nick for providing the info.

Thanks, I was hoping not to take it off, I guess my mistake was reapplying without an APC scrub, all I did is scrub with tire brush and car shampoo, the bubbles came out white so I figured I was good to go.
The first coats were 3-5 months old and not shiny any more, (keep in mind this a garage queen, not DD but it did have a rain day not long ago) I was just hoping to renew it....SMH

We can't stress this enough - you have to clean the tire using DP Tire Cleaner & Restorer - not car wash, not APC, not Jimbo's super value APC plus - only DP Tire Cleaner & Restorer, just like it says on the directions found on the bottle and the website.

The dedicated DP tire cleaner must be used with it. Also DP is pretty durable. It will turn brown on improperly prepped surface.

Thanks for the link. :props:

Nope, not APC - DP Tire Cleaner & Restorer. :dblthumb2:

Once you get it off, thoroughly clean the tires and then reapply it. Make sure you follow the directions to the T. :)

I've had the same problem with Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Gel. Except this is on a garage queen that hasn't seen rain or been outside that much. The tires have turned brown and leaves behind a nasty brown rubber like substance. I have chrome wheels with these tires.

What cleaner should I use to get this gel off? Also, while I'm asking; what cleaner do you recommend for the chrome wheels. Again, it is a garage green; but does get a build up of brake dust from the Baer brakes.

This could have been answered on MM.net.

I'm a bit confused. Let me make an assumption first. Let's say DP tire coat & cleaner is similar enough to to Tuff Shine tire coat and cleaner. This is an assumption, because I've never used the DP stuff - but am quite familiar with TS. I've been using TS since before AGO started carrying it - I think I've been using it over 3 years.

Of course, if my assumption is wrong - my post is worthless...

1. You need to clean the tire for the INITIAL application of the coating with the special cleaner.

2. After the INITIAL coating is successful, the tire does not need to be cleaned with the "special cleaner" for "top ups". I've used car wash soap, multiple APCs, and various wheel cleaners with success. In fact, after the INITIAL coating is successful, I've never used anything that didn't work to clean the tire prior to a "top up".

.... If your initial coat was 3-5 mos old and you wanted to "top off" the coating - cleaning with APC should be sufficient. I've done this a million times with TS - and have never had anything close to an issue.

Of course, a couple of other possibilities exist:

1. DP tire coat is different from TS

2. Somehow, someway, somehow, a conventional tire dressing (or other chemical that effects the coating) got on these tires. I'm thinking this is what is going on here.

OK, my initial application was like this, I scrubbed tires with APC until suds stayed white, let them dry then applied 3 coats at 30 minutes apart.

The tires remained a nice black color over about 3000 miles of driving, some of those in extended heavy rains.
After a few months the shine wasn't like it was newly applied.

After about 3 months I scrubbed them with Optimum car wash and the suds were clean as well so I assumed they were clean enough and decided to top off.

My assumption is I made 2 mistakes,
First, not using APC for a scrub before a top off
Second, not waiting 30 minutes between coats...more like 15

That being said I spent 5 hours scrubbing it off all four tires using APC and various brushes finally ending up using a toothbrush sized wire brush.

When it was done I used Black Onyx, tires look good for now.
I am driving this car to Atlanta (SSHS15dotcom) for a couple of car shows and some drag racing and didn't want to chance having to remove it again while on the road.

The DP is some serious stuff, it really bonds with the tire, I have it on my wife's Tacoma and will leave it on until it's time for a touch up, then I will do the DP Tire scrub and see what happens.

I bought a BIG bottle of this as I still think it is a good product and I plan on using it on my 2 DD Sprinter Vans.

I just really like confirmation as to what I did wrong so I don't have to go through the removal process again...ever.
