DP Total Headlight Restoration kit: Detailer’s Total Headlight Restoration Kit, how to restore headlights


So, i tried this combo yesterday. But didn't get the results i was seeking.

I paired up the LC Foam Wool with my GG 6" w/ a 3.5" BP
Each headlight was cut in 2 section, each section received 2 application of the DP AIO polish. About 4+ passes on each section / per application.
Speed 4-5

Although a lot of impurities was removed, but the headlight is still cloudy, not crystal clear.

Hoping someone with experience with this kit can provide some insight of what i did incorrect.

Doesn't look like u did wrong. You may need to wet sand or the rest of the haze may be inside.

I think a lot of people use the 3m kit, they say its one of the best.
 
I have done about 50+ HLR with sanding procedure.
None of the headlights i encounter ever had the haze coming from inside of the lens.


Recently saw the thread from another website about this HLR Kit, results seem very promising, as the vehicle they worked on had much worst oxidization than these.

However when i did them, the result was not good in my opinion....

I was looking for alternative methods from sanding to shorten the time for each headlight.
 
I have a car where the haze is on the inside.
I know this because I sanded off a good layer on the outside, and the chrome inside was still not clear from the outside.

Nothing you can do except take it apart.
 
DP Total Headlight Restoration kit. I used the same kit recently and was less than satisfied with the results. In addition to that, the pad in the kit started coming apart after 1 set of headlights. After the second set of headlights, the drill backing plate started coming apart.

In AG store it is promoted as a one step process and produces perfect clarity. Neither of these happened in my case and one of the sets of headlights I did wasn't that bad before I started. I emailed AG but they pretty much said that the pads are not supposed to last much longer than that. On the outside of the box it even states PRO, lol. I cannot recommend this kit.

I ended up wetsanding and finishing with my Griot's 3" with microfiber pad and M205. This is not the first set of headlights I've done.

 
What? The pad is not suppose to last more than 1 set of headlights?
That is absurd, I bought into this product because of the existing review that is available on this forum for view.
Also there is another from Autopia.

Their pictures of the after look SO GREAT, however when i tried it. It looked nothing alike.
 
Just like paint, some plastic is "hard" others are "soft". What works wonders on one set of lights may not even touch another. I haven't used this product but I don't think I would expect 100% correction on every set of lenses on the market.
 
Did you try it with a regular drill instead of the DA? You might get better results that way.
 
I can't imagine using a drill would yield better results than using machine.

Why wouldn't it? Same principal as rotary vs DA in a sense. It even says in the instructions The 3 Inch Drill Backing Plate by Lake Country provides a quick and easy way to polish headlight lenses and other small body panels using a standard household drill.

I am in NO way defending/promoting this product as I have not used it.
 
I will conduct more experiment with this product, however during testing i often offer free services in return for experiment, so i am at a disadvantage.

Also, from Autopia forums, someone used a Rupes 75 mini instead of a drill and got good results.

Next time i will break out my Rupes mini and try again.

Yeah I seen that someone use a rupes mini on that other site, and comparing that mini to a 6"gg you'd have to say that the mini is quite the beast wouldn't you?
 
Actually i just bought the Mini along with the DP Kit, received it last friday.
Haven't had the chance to use the Mini yet lol
I only used the GG6" Because the 3.5" BP fit perfectly with the foam wool pad.
And also i knew there would be a lot of dust get stuck on the pad, i didn't want to get the Rupes Mini all dusty and dirty.

I did use the drill to begin with. I believe I said after the second set of headlights the backing plate started coming apart.
 
I've done a total of 5 sets of headlights with this kit using a cordless drill. The included wool pad attachment has stayed the same as the day I got it. Lights came out great too.
 
Wet sand with 1500 n then 2000 n maybe even 2500. Thencompound and polish out. 105 works well on lights
