On a recent week camping trip to flagstaff an experiment was born, The truck was detailed and the 5th wheel cleaned. UTTG was applied to all exterior trim on the truck. While driving to flagstaff a couple of torrential down pours came in to play. While at the campsite some down pours also occurred and while drying the truck the two step pads had water marks showing their ugly head. This is not unusual as when I was using 303 on trim I would simply reapply and they were gone until the next rain. I had taken a lot of DG products of which 271 and 253 were two. Good time to test these. I applied 271 to one pad and 253 to the other. No prep was done. These are the pics of the out come.

There were plenty of down pours after application with no sign of water spots or running of the two products. They definately seem to out do UTTG which was my favorite trim dressing. 271 is a little flatter than 253 and am not really sure which look I like. A longevity test would take a very long time as the truck mainly gets out when pulling the 5th wheel although there are short trips around town. It is not a daily driver but the two products already out lasted UTTG on the rear step pads. These pictures will give you an idea of the looks of trim after application.

As I've always said "hard to beat Duragloss for the money" Over time #253 has become my favorite for tires. Cheap and with the water resistant properties lasts longer than expected on a daily driver. One of my garage queens has an application on the tires for over a year! 2 rinse less washes and one full foam prewash, two bucket wash and still holding up! Another good use is on rubber floor mats especially the winter ones with all the extra ribs that take a beating and dry out from salt/chemical exposure. Looks like new after an application and not greasy once dry. The shine seems to mellow out once dry also.

Awesome I was planning on picking up 271 for exterior trim pieces. I've given up on cg trim products as the ones I've tried all have failed. I currently use auto finesse revive on my garaged car and absolutely love it. 271 would be for my daily. Please update with durability would love to see how well/long it holds up.

It seems like 253 makes the trim a little darker than 271. Both look good though.

I will keep the updates but like I stated it is not a daily driver at this time. Last night I woke up with pouring rain. Went out this morning to see how the pads were doing and the water ran off, evaporated whatever but absolutely no signs of anything on any of the treated surfaces. As of now all is well.

I am kind of leaning towards the 253 just for that reason. 271 does a real good job on oxidized trim bringing it back to life. In that case I would probably use both.

My 07 Passat has pebble grain black vinly all around the rocker panels and it's a PIA to maintain so I tried something new suggested by a detailer on another forum. Cleaned the black pebble trim with HD Orange Degreaser mixed 4:1 and a small scrub brush until nothing was coming off. Gave it a coat of DG 105 while doing the whole car then maintain it with FC&S. It's been six months and it looks a good as the day I did it. Makes it much simpler--just give it a freash coat of 105 when I do the rest of the car.

Nice review. I absolutely love 271 on plastic and I've used 253 on tires but not trim. I'm about to go put 253 on my sisters faded wiper cowl and see what it does.
Did the 253 run on the paint at all?

Nothing ran at all. I just washed the truck with 901 this morning to make sure all the Pine tree mist was gone. No evidence of running and trim still looks like pics.

Good to know. I applied it to the severely faded wiper cowl and it streaked a bit. But I think the plastic was soaking it up since its so dry. I might try another coat later this afternoon. The stuff smells like something and I can't figure it out. It's bothering me lol.

See what it looks like when it dries, may even out. I do not remember exactly (age thing) but it seemed as though I did not think I had an even coat although everything was covered ( I used a Terry cloth to apply) and I just worked it in and walked away, After it dried all was well. I only applied one coat.

Dave,
I'm looking for something to apply to step pads on nerf bars, but haven't found anything that doesn't make the pads slick when they're wet. Since sliding my ankle in between the nerf bar and the truck body, and applying a lot of leverage as my large .... self .... falls down leads to a non-harmonious outcome ....
Have you ever used these products on solid nerf bar pads? I mean smooth top, no serrations or ridges. If so ... slick when wet, or not?

Thanks for any input you can provide.

Never used on nerf bars. By nature of the beast I would think anything you use on smooth objects will make it slippery. When I wiped the water from the pads the last few times they did not feel overly slippery with the drying towel and if using them with sneakers maybe ok but not with dress shoes with flat souls. If I was going to use one of these for your circumstance I would try the 271 as 253 with rain repel will probably add slickness. I use DG's Rain Repel on my windows and it definately leaves glass slick, I try not to use the step pads or the front bumper cover for their intended purpose as scratches and gouging can occur but in your case the nerf bars are needed and to be used. Hope I answered your question.

Put another coat on that dry, faded plastic. I'm really impressed with how it turned out. It dries without any oily, greasy feel which is nice. Dramatically darkened the plastic. I also decided to put it on the plastic mud guards behind the tires and it made them look great. I might've found a new trim dressing..

Me to, really liking the ease and looks

271 is great for plastic, no doubt. 301 is excellent as well! I use both of these with great results.

I've used 301 on rubber and vinyl like it states to do on the bottle. I considered trying it on plastic. Maybe I will try that next lol. I feel like a lot of their products overlap. How's the durability of 301 on plastic? I've had great durability on rubber trim.

301 is my product of choice for my vinyl tonneau cover. When I dress the cover I will use it on the plastic trim. I really don't know how long it last but certainly long enough for me. It doesn't run off either. I think it is a little glossier than 271.

I put it on my girlfriends soft top on her jeep and it was great until the first rain then it rain on the paint BAD. I applied way too much though. I'll have to give it a shot on plastic next.
