It's getting near to that time of year where I'm going to need to protect my vehicle.

I'm probably going to get some Collinite 476 and use that by itself. Would this last about 4 months? November-February?

I could get some Klasse SG (already have AIO which would be used as a base) and then top that with 476, but I'm not a big fan of sealants. I have dg105 and 101.

So, I guess, is Collinite 476 the go to wax for winter protection, or is there another Collinite wax that is good also?

Will 476 by itself last 3-4 months of winter protection?

Use the 105 and then do a coat of 476. Al said this combo last well through the winter.

Here's an easy question also.. Why do people protect their car differently in the winter then what they do in summer..?

Use a less Carnauba that gives more shine/ depth. Something like SSII or Souveran Paste.

Some of us live in areas where the winter conditions can be pretty brutal. When it snows the roads are salted or sanded which can reak havoc on your cars finish. So we try to put the best protection on our cars to help prevent the salt from trashing the paint. It's also not easy to keep your car clean because it gets so cold. Last winter I used DP 4-in-1 to keep my trucks clean. Once in a while if it warmed up I would take it to a car wash to rinse it down, then back to my garage to DP it.

Cause it's too cold to wash it for some of the members. I'd be darned if I was out washing my cars in 50* or colder. To the OP two coats of 476 should get you by no problem. Doing a quick AW or a spray wax in the middle of winter can ensure the full distance.

I concur....last winter I washed my car at night at a place close to home then wiped it down quickly as some areas away from the engine or windows would ice up. But hey.....it looked good for about an hour the following day till more salt was splashed up on it :-)

winter? whats that?
i live in souterhn california...hahaa -
we barely get rain over here and the tempturature rarely drops the 70's
last christmas it was some 83 degrees
i think from NOW til february is when people normally get rain/snow but we dont get rain til april...for liek a 6 days the whole month.

god i love this place

anyways..ive heard that Collinite 476 is the weapon of choice...but my question is , when u say 'winter' protection, is it due to the amount of rain your protecting from, or the cold temperature...?

60's and I'm wrapped like a mommy with a very large hot glass of coffee in hand ;). Maybe one day I'll get used to it, but there is still much FL blood running through these vains ;).

It's actually road salt and dirty snow that can splash up to your doors and front of the car. It also does well against rain, beacuse rain can be somewhat acidic depending on where you live.

I think I'll do two layers of 476. Of course, I'll be washing the car everytime I can during winter w/ a Rinseless more than likely.

I'll use one of my many spray waxes or a QD w/ protection after washing.

Thanks ya'll.

Hmmm, I prepped for winter with AIO, SG, then 2 coats of WGDGPS and finally a coat of NR...I'll have to keep 476 in mind for next winter.

Harsh winter – Klasse All In One (AIO) Klasse Sealant Glaze (SG) x 2, Collinite # 845 Liquid Insulator Wax or # 476s Super Doublecoat Auto Wax x 2. If you apply a final layer of wax without buffing it will provide more protection / durability (especial for vehicle storage purposes).

Wouldnt you want the same ammount of protection during summer seeing as the sun always hits your paint..

Well, all the sun does is shorten the lifespan of certain waxes on your paint. If you have a caruanba wax on your car, by having the car outside often, the sun would just wear it down. But then, since it's the summer, you can fairly easily reapply another layer with just with a QD clean-up.

But in the winter, right after you do a full detail, it'll get dirty right away on the streets after road salt and snow slush hits your car. You'll have to wash the whole car again in order to be able to reapply another layer of wax, but then washing the whole car again in winter is pretty tough. By having us specifically pick a wax that is more for protection then shine, ie a sealant vs a carnuaba, we'll at least protect the paint from sources of winter havoc.

:whs: Exactly!

The 60s are pretty nice. Its the over 85 thats bad. I cant take the heat. In the winter when it gets below 25 degrees, now its to cold.

Can't help you with this much, California doesn't have salted roads, but I have seen a thread (not on AG) where someone had Wolfgang DGPS bead after 8 months. The beading in the pictures looked really good. Then again, I'm not sure if this was in a place where they put salt on the roads..
