When I walked into the garage today the lights were off and I noticed the status light on my my larger Ego battery was flashing

It wasn’t in the blower, just sitting on a shelf

I hadn’t seen either battery do that before

I put it on the charger and it was completely charged

Just weird

I've seen this on random occasions. From what I can gather, its ambient temperature related.

Mine was flashing while in its winter rest. If I recall correctly the EGO batteries are designed to slowly self discharge to some magic level that is deemed ideal for storage. Automatic after 30 days of non-use I think.

Wow, that's pretty sophisticated. And here I thought it was just the Chinese spy cam activating.

So far, I've only had that happen during the winter in my garage (detached, un-conditions) and the outdoor temps were fridged outside (<10°F). When I pushed the button on the battery that was flashing red, it stopped and displayed normal battery level lights before going out.

The thermostat in the garage is currently set on 55

I did push the button first but I honestly don't remember what it did or said, I just plopped it on the charger because I was going to need it, and as I said it showed fully charged within seconds

Next time I will pay more attention

Sorry if I asked this before, but you have heat (no A/C?) in the garage? Is that resistance electric, or something else? The garage is attached, right?

When I've hit the button on the battery, I've wondered if it basically "soft reset" the state of the battery along with telling you how much charge it has.

Attached garage, gas fired forced air heat, no AC needed (yet)

That’s as good of a guess as any

I’ve been looking for info on the interwebs and my Google Fu is weak today

I’ll keep trying

I took the extreme approach and actually called Ego

It took a while but the bottom line is the occasional flashing light is their “self maintenance” function that helps maintain battery health

As Thunderchicken stated it will slowly discharge down to 30% if it sits unused and that’s normal

I wonder if it does that while on the charger, too? It seems to me I left one on the charger over the winter once and when I went to use it, it had no poop.

I didn’t ask that, the guy who finally called me back was obviously working off a flow chart and only had canned answers

I assume the info I got was accurate and there is reference to the self maintenance and various combinations of flashing light colors, times, etc in the battery manual
