So I have found out first hand why it would be a great and necessary idea to have a smaller polisher than a 3" setup. So my question is, is there anything out there available for us that don't have an air supply?

I have thought about modifying a machine and sticking a 1" backing plate to accommodate these needs. Any thoughts or ideas on how to do this?

I know Mike posted pictures of what they have available over at Autogeek Headquarter, but I believe it was air powered. So looking for same setup but electrical. Maybe Mike can post up the pictures?

Thanks everyone, :xyxthumbs:

The only idea I got to was this. I know other companies make adjustable ones, so that's good, but I believe the lowest setting are 10,000 OPM. So would want something that could be set lower if needed.

It doesn't seem to complicated, someone just needs to come up with an idea or invent the machine.

:iagree:

I'd love to have an electric ORBITAL polisher.

I think the issue is either electric motor size and power technology or the heat issues with small sized electric motors. Could be both?

That's why you see all these small tools that are air powered.

Maybe Mike can post up the pictures?

Thanks everyone, :xyxthumbs:

Here's the threads and pictures I have of the Rupes TA50 in action polishing with both 2" and 1" pads....

Here's Frank polishing the A-Pillar on a 1987 Ferrari we buffed out. I've created a number of threads showing the different areas of this car getting detailed but have not created the actual paint buffing thread.

That said here's a shot of the Rupes TA50 in action on the Ferrari.

Thank You Mike, as always you have all the pictures in stock. :xyxthumbs:

^ I'd love to be able to do all that but electrical and I would be able to all pack it in my car and take it with me when I'm being mobile and not have to carry a small air compressor around.

Also, I am not to sure about the issues of a tool like this. I think it's just demand? Meaning not enough people have wanted or asked for one? :dunno:

Weren't Rotary's designed for 1 job and then got discovered for another job? Until enough people were doing it and an actual tool got made for the job? Like the PC was I think made for wood work, but then detailers got there hands on it and then companies like Flex and Rupes made tools specifically designed for us Detailers?

Also, I've learned that your are more likely to burn paint on a 3"inch BP on a DA vs a 3"inch BP on a Rotary. Seems odd, but have heard this and also learned this first hand.

So here is what I've come across. I've done headlight restoration on my PC using a 3" BP to buff and polish and then I did a headlight restoration job using this: (Meguiar's Heavy Duty Headlight Restoration Kit) Meguiars Heavy Duty Two Step Headlight Restoration Kit, Meguiars G3000, headlight polishing kit, severe headlight polishing kit, how to polish

What I discovered that buffing out 3000 sanding marks with my PC and 3"inch BP and a TuFBuf wool pad and compound generated more heat than Meguiar's Heavy Duty Kit and the drill I was using spun a lot faster, but couldn't control the speed, it was just on/off. So I just went with it and when I checked the temperature of the lens. To my surprise it was very minimal. Where as the heat generated with my PC was extremely hot to the touch.

So now I come across this, only thing I see really drawing this machine back for us detailers is if it can or can't be used with a backing plate. Seems like this would be a great idea to do. Just haven't seen in one in person. I am going to try and find out if my local Home Depot sells them and take my BP and see if I can get any ideas putting it on.

and the speed settings are great!

Thank You, this is what I was looking for and umm.... what's up with the audio hahahahahahahaa, talk about way off topic.... man that was hilarious lol

I have a Dremel at home that I use for miscellaneous things, but I came across this right angle attachment for the dremel after you started this thread.

I wonder if you could jury rig this thing to have a backing plate for sanding/polishing instead of a drill bit.

How is the thread to the attachment piece? Don't know the name of it..., if it screws on then I don't see why not. The only thing that would scare me using it would be if it was forced rotation and speed settings too.

What's going on here??? lol

If you Google it, it comes up, but then I call Griots customer service and they say no we don't have that in stock.

They did ask me if I'm on their website or Autogeek's website... I said, umm no your site lol :p (which was true btw, but didn't tell them I found it from here haha)

oh and get this, polisher is also bluetooth enabled lol and I quote from the site

"Now You Can Polish And Wax Anything, Anytime, Anywhere, With The Latest In Orbital Technology. Battery-Powered, Bluetooth Enabled & Built To Last."

I think someone might have thrown an Easter egg on Richard Griots website lol Here is what an Easter egg is for those of you that don't know:

A secret message or screen buried in an application. Typically, easter eggs are used to display the credits for the development team or to display a humorous message. To see an easter egg, you need to know a special procedure or sequence of keystrokes.

I think it may have been an April Fool's joke, like they've done before.

haha, yeah that's what an Easter Egg is too, done a lot in video games. Mortal Kombat did it all the time. I got all excited too lol..., had my Visa card all locked and loaded lol.

It was really funny though..., thanks for it. :props:

Well off to see if the Dewalt idea will work... :buffing:

I have a Fein multitool (the Cadillac of these tools). No way this would work. The thing vibrates your hands like crazy.

So anybody know where I can get a 2" backing plate? I bought some 2 inch pads from BuffDaddy and now I need a backing plate for when my pads arrive. I checked his site and he doesn't seem to sell the 2 inch BP's.

^ Like so but 2 inches

If you read the griots description, it says it uses unicorn tears and has a flux capacitor, lol. Def, a joke.

So I think I came up with an idea to use a 2" pad and even a 1" pad all electrical too.

Stuff should be arriving shortly and will keep everyone updated when it does get here. So tune in everyone! :props:

Art,

That 'one inch buffer' was defiantly an April Fool's thing. If my mind is right, it was in 2011. They (Griot's) did these 'ads' a couple of years oin a row.

From what I remember, a lot of folks inquired about them.

T'was some pretty funny ads...

Bill

PepBoys actually sells a 2" backing plate that is threaded and comes with an adapter for use with a drill.

I think they are around $8

I cannot confirm the thread diameter.
